A nice thing happened. I mentioned on a rose-growing group that I would like The Lark Ascending one day and a really lovely local woman said, "You can have mine if you want." So... I have made a really nice new friend (with a beautiful garden) and also have this rather gorgeous (and hefty) newcomer! Totally smitten with it.
Ā Also had a good sniff of her lovely and very floriferous Pretty Jessica, from Trevor White. It was on my radar anyway but such a lovely scent, like Gertrude Jekyll squared. Definitely one to order.
'Armada', just starting another big flush.. well established rose.. ..big hips if not deadheaded.. 'Elizabeth'.. 'La France' proving a vigorous upright grower, with continuous bloom.. 'Lilac Bouquet'.. a shrubby rambler, thornless..Ā ..mini Waterlily... 'Scented Garden'.. one of my best roses, always.. with white Phlox.. as this is actually quite a shady border most of the time.. ..just to show I still have some roses alive...Ā
Such a lovely bouquet. I certainly don't have enough for one of those.
Barkarole - a florists' rose, (not bushy) but I'm glad to have it. It has a powerful, insistant, upright elegance that my other roses don't have; very good posture and excellent French elocution
After clearing a spot to add one final rose I decided Queen of Sweden would be "the one'. I was delighted to see it arrive at my local garden centre but then I spotted this beauty.... It was a tough decision but Olivia Rose Austin just warmed my heart ā¤ļø (Maybe next year QoS... š¤)
Wonderful blooms all around... I did remember a few names to mention specifically but by the time I got to the last page it all got mixed up in my brain
I came back to crisped and drooping blooms/ young growth.. watered well, yet to finish with deadheading.. another warm week ahead.. atleast nights seem to be mild compared to the last heat wave..Ā
Hope everyone down with ill health recover soon..Ā
Yes a lovely surprise @WhereAreMySecateurs, and those roses are fabulousĀ @Marlorena andĀ @Nollie ā with the weather right now Iām appreciating the challenges of gardening in hot, dry conditions even more
Great choice @joyarose1 ā I may be biased as I also have Olivia Rose AustinĀ
Iām learning to be ok with Draga discolouring in the heat (itās my first and only red, and none of my other pale coloured roses do this). From afar itās not noticeable and the colour makes a great impact. Not quite as elegant as your Barkarole @Fireā¦
Extra shots ā backlit dahlia āEmbassyā
And a scraggly first bloom on anemone āPink Kissā
'Olivia RA' PhenoGeno 'Mileva'/'Renee van Wegberg' - exceptional fragrance (strong, raspberries) but a lot of balling in my climate 'Gabriel Oak' 2nd flush 'Reine des Violettes' 2nd flush 'Paul Noel' is flowering almost continuously for me, this is its 'scattered blooms' The evolution of 'The Bees Knees' (5/8, 7/8, 9/8) 'Silas Marner' 'Starlet Melina' 'Comtessa'
