Hi again, everyone, wonderful pics as always! i can only admire them as nothing is blooming here in this heat, except Summer Memories and one Angela cane, almost done now though
but i have a lot of problems, diseased leaves, entire canes drying and dying for no reason, i suppose it is a nasty fungus, not the usual blackspot.
this one (climbing Bienvenue) was bought in spring and i think it must have come infected from the shop, i had already cut one cane, and now the rest looks like this:
i only have these two canes left. there is new growth on them though. i can't remove them from below without killing it, i think.Ā
@edhelka I hadn't considered that Proper Job turns pink but you are quite right that it doesn't stay red like say Royal William. However it does stay red for a very long time. Today I have all ages of bloom open, I expect the one right at the back to blow with a huge shower of petals soon. BoscobelWollerton Old Hall has just loved this hot weather, the blooms remained unmarked and keep coming. It does get a bit of blackspot on this west-facing fence but it is planted in a very narrow strip of soil with I know-not-what below, also a huge 10ft mature evergreen hedge within 30 cms. It is very vigorous but fairly thorn-free and pliable. Lady of Shalott just starting a flushThis quartet just starting up again, covered in buds and all healthy shrubs. Eglantyne, Oivia Rose A, Utopia and Scarborough FairI have a Knockout rose @SYinUSA but I don't think I will be putting it in the ground, I bought it cheaply from Tuincentrum Lottum just as an oddity. It is astoundingly brightMy little stripy, Ruby Mella is getting darker as the summer progresses Nollie.
Lovely roses everyone, loving Newbieās range of oranges and lemons especially.
@Veilchenblau you asked āwould you still give your roses a liquid feed despite the ongoing lack of rainwater?ā
If your roses are still happy and blooming and you are keeping them hydrated with at least one deep watering a week, itās probably fine to continue liquid feeding. Food without supplemental water is not a good idea nor if they are really heat/drought stressed or have stopped blooming altogether despite watering. So it really depends on your specific area/conditions, here I stopped liquid feeding some weeks ago.
My roses donāt know if they are coming or going, the weather is heating up again to mid 30s, so whatever is currently blooming will probably give up soon..

@Nollie thank you so much for the advice, you have beautiful roses there and the puppy is absolutely gorgeous!! š¾š¾ Ā Ā
Oh god... just noticed coming in the dry cracking earth around the new Gertrudes out front. Looks as if there's been an earthquake! Despite that, they have plenty of buds. Need to give them a few bucketsful (and a weed) tonight, by torchlight if necessary.

@Marlorena thanks for the quick reply, i was suspecting that myself but kept hoping against all oddsš¢
@Veilchenblau gorgeous Iceberg! i keep hearing how floriferous this rose is and your experience seems to confirm it! is it healthy too? is the fragrance detectable?Ā
@WhereAreMySecateurs Itās Ā so dry isnāt it same where I am in the S-E. āBoule de Neigeā is on my future wish list and looks beautiful in your pic.Ā
Iāve decided I may have to reluctantly part with a rose. āPurple Skylinerā, it has been such a disappointment for health, it constantly has powdery mildew and has failed to repeat flower this year so far unlike last year. I have āBlush Noisetteā growing next to it, which in one year has proven to be altogether much healthier and has lots of new buds. I have come Ā to the conclusion, that despite its beauty, itās not a patch on the short flowering āVeilchenbleuā in my garden.Ā
