I have been so occupied by other things that I just haven't been bothered to take photos of roses. I still visit here to read and admire but feel without pics I haven't got much to contribute. Today I made a bit more effort
I have Queen Elizabeth too It has been my best year for climbers by far. Bathsheba has been particularly brilliant, the longest continously flowering of all but that was because it was so dry, this rose hates prolonged rain. The Generous Gardener, Claire Austin, Strawberry HillThis is the bed created in lockdown and documented here, includes Blush Noisette, Blackberry Nip, Eye of the Tiger, Rhapsody in BluePots still producing. My favourites this year include all the below, The Prince with Blue RiverMunstead WoodOdyssey (can see Wollerton on fence)Faustinia and Chippendale with Clem Justa (can just see Soul and Boscobel about to bloom again)
Hello all, I would like suggestions please for a pale pink rose to go on a 6ft high metal obelisk in front garden by our drive. It's technically facing south but there is now a 15ft-20ft high purple leaved cherry tree behind it on a lower level. From the house windows, it's facing north if that makes sense. I'd prefer a repeat flowering rose, a good 'doer'. I like the HT shape of rose rather than a many petalled variety if possible. It will be next to a deep pink rose planted 2019 and I already have 'Eglantyne' planted further up in the same bed. I know Marlorena told us which side to plant a rose on an obelisk but have now forgotten - anybody remember?
Many thanks, I keep looking online but am dithering!
I haven't got many to compare @Lizzie27 but I think Strawberry Hill is pretty perfect for a 6ft obelisk. It flowers from top to bottom (but in flushes), easy to train, totally healthy and beautifully scented. Lots of people swear by Gertrude Jekyll too but too thorny for me. Both not the HT shape though.
Photos taken a few minutes ago in the fading twilight. Macmillan nurse Golden Beauty, doesn't look golden, rather orangey 🤔 Marchenzauber. Nice fruity scent. Lovely when the bloom has just opened. I wanted to take a picture last Sunday, but only managed to do that today. The Churchill rose And more Darcey Bussel, smaller size flower now, probably because I haven't fed the roses since June. My bad 😞
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
@WhereAreMySecateurs Both Macmillan Nurse and Darcey Bussel have a light fruity scent. For a smell-challenged person like me, I have to virtually bury my nose into the bloom to smell.
Here also, it is aphid-fest. I disregard them; the new growth and buds are most welcome.
This page says September is the month for the second flush of roses. Is that the case with you all?

I am not sure if it's a pale enough pink, though, @Lizzie27

Trevor White sell it and say it is suitable for pillars/obelisks.

I love the HT look of the flowers, too

The Lady of Shalott keeps going...
Satisfying clusters of buds on Heritage.
Many more buds to come on various roses, and lots of growth, but also, it is aphid city.
