A friend has LEH in part-shade and it seems to do very well, @Imprevu. I intend to plant it where it will get 3-4hrs' sun if I can pick it up this bareroot season.
Have had some unexpected garden time and nearly got Heritage and the Albrighton Rambler into the ground. Terrifying to think that soon a load of bareroots will be arriving. Not. Ready. At. All.
@Imprevu I agree with @WhereAreMySecateurs, LEH does very well on partial sun. Mine takes sun only in the morning and in its second year is doing fine, as far as I can say I think it would have suffered this year if it was in full sun.
I have read though that LEH need a spot repaired from wind, and actually mine is near a wall
@Mr Vine Eye, I don't see why not, they are quite small bulbs so shouldn't interfere much with the rose roots. I'd be inclined to space them out as near to the pot rim as you can get them.
Proper Job - nice red colour and a strong scent too. The earlier flush was all spoilt by the weather. Happy to have nice blooms for cutting this time around. Korresia - bright yellow, again good for cutting.

And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Anyone thinking about autumn mulching? Usually I mulch with used compost from annuals and vegetables pots and home made compost. This year I didn't do any pots and didn't need to mow grass so not much compost.Â
I am thinking if it is worth buying something? And what to get MPC, manure or bark chips?
Still feeling a bit liverish after a three day alcohol and food fuelled 70th birthday celebration in Andalucia, but got some time today to catch up on all the lovely late season roses. Loads of rain in my absence, not so great for the housesitters, but the garden is looking pretty good!Â
Will post some rose and garden photos when I get a moment but meanwhile, for the benefit of the Smudge Club, here are some photos of the precious cargo picked up on the return journey. She’s already proving a handful!!

Desdemona is in a huge pot and I’m just wondering if I could get away with planting something like Spring dwarf iris or crocus in there with it?
