LoS is so impressive. I wonder how a hedge of her would do.
My star today was Rose des Cisterciens. In 12+hrs of baking sun near the middle of the lawn, and it was 37 here today, but this still looks and smells as fresh as the proverbial daisy.
I feel like this crispy rose on Mortimer Sackler from 2019. Now that it’s Mary Delaney she’s stopped doing this. Probably just being in the ground and more established!
I got Our Beth, courtesy @edhelka's photos and review. First bunch of flowers from this rose plant. Timeless Cream Next flush started on Golden Showers, but during this heatwave, flowers last only for 2 days. Sorry for the poor quality of this photo, as it is way above me.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Not much flowering at the moment. Super Trouper and sunshine Babylon eyes in morning sun. Chippendale in full shade. I bought it for this colour not the pink it was in early summer.Â
Beautiful colour, newbie. I have just seen Chippendale/Duchess of Cornwall in a pic on another site looking totally indistinguishable from Eustacia Vye!
lovely pics everyone.. Had a few pages to catch up.. started with Omori's beautiful pics.. but what took my heart away was the cute cat and pup pics.. I believe it was from Discandied and Nollie...Â
@Marlorena I was impressed by your La France.. And I saw it in your list too.. will wait for your review after rainy season..Â
Hope everyone is staying safe in the heat.. I must admit, though not a fan of this hot climate, the blooms were not spoiled by rains and I could enjoy every bit of them.. taking quite lot of pics everyday...
Old roses... Celine Forestier, Gruss an Teplitz, Clementina and Louis Odier..
@Eustace My Roald Dhal is in its 4th year.. perhaps that’s why it seems to flower more.. but that said I suspect I have simply been given a particularly healthy specimen by DA.. it has demonstrated great vigour from the day I received it.. sometimes I wonder when we buy roses there’s a bit of luck involved.. as just like no two humans are exactly the same I would think it applies to plants too?Â
@Victoria Sponge Thank you! I do love my Port Sunlight very much.. the way it fades in distinct layers from deep apricot to light yellow on the edges.. plus it was also a birthday gift from my partner so it’s extra special. Oh and Port Sunlight (the village that it is named after - which I have been) is just across the Mersey from me!Â
A few rose pics from me..
First up - Claire Austin - it is doing surprisingly well in this heat - I know it’s never liked rain (balls easily) but I suppose it has gained one brownie point now for being sort of heat tolerant..Â
Etoile dropping in the heat.. lots of buds gearing up for second flush ..
Princess Anne - heavily infested by aphids in spring - it completely missed the first flush as a result - I should have used an organic spray on it in early spring to tie it over till the ladybirds arrive but I was too occupied with my new allotment then..Â
Now that the aphid issue is gone I noticed there is this strange sticky white goo that is bound to the new buds.. there is also signs of the buds being munched on by some insect (a hole in it) which results in very deformed blooms - any idea what it might be? I know that the white goo is not the result of aphids as they’ve all been munched on by the ladybirds..Â

I think what is munching your bus is the rose budworm (Pyrrhia umbra) which actually dig galleries in the buds like in your pic.
