..sounds a rather typical Austin in that sense then Nollie.. Mr Austin preferred the look so not a lot we can do about weak necks.. @Nollie and I've just seen your Noella, well I hope it improves, they take a while I think these types.. I understand they are sometimes confused in commerce..
@Athelas ..your Alliums are very nice that 'Ambassador' promises so much, just at that tantalising stage.. Your roses will soon be out too..Ā there's no race, they'll open when they feel like it.Ā I sometimes think the later the better.. ..as much as I love this 'St. Nicholas' it will likely be all over by end of May.. but I accept it's a Spring rose.
@fire No, Desdemona has a most beautiful oldey-rosey fragrance, I canāt imagine any rose lover not enjoying it. I think youāre thinking of myrrh, for example, Gentle Hermione.Ā
@fire, yes it is theĀ myrrh ones that one cant be sure without smelling in person. Sometimes I feel DA just put whatever they cant classify in other catagory inĀ myrrh. I love fragrance of sceptred isle and strawberry hill but Venessa bell is ughh for me.Ā
@Lizzie27 ... First blooms are rarely typicalĀ but I think it's the dry spell that's caused small blooms..Ā my NN should open tomorrow and it will be equally small like yours..Ā
Thanks @Marlorena, I was expecting small blooms on NN as I think that its habit? I forgot to cut back the erigeron earlier so it's flowering on last year's growth. I went mad and bought more so I'm anticipating drowning in a sea of it soon!
True @Marlorena, the nodding does go with the DA territory.
My Nabonnand is definitely Noella with the red young canes, well prickled and the silvery white highlights on the blooms. Growth seems typically vigorous so far. Iāve just snipped off that bloom squished at the back,Ā nice fragrance, hints of damask (strictly speaking itās a hybrid tea).Ā Itās my biggest bloom ever, a generous 5ā across in the vase. Is that cheating though, when nodding on the bush they are not so big?!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Wonderful roses, everyone. The buds on my roses havenāt started opening yet, though theyāve been tantalisingly close for quite a while, so I understand @Athelas ās Ā impatience.

I like your border behind, with the erigeron..
