@Veilchenblau Thanks a lot for the info, it's very helpful! I think i will settle for Perennial Blue instead, it seems safer.
@pitter-patter wow, you've got Peach Melba, and such a lovely pic! I was just trying to find out more about this rose for a friend who would like a small climber in that range of colours, but there isn't much info about this one, except that it seems to be very healthy. How long do the blooms last? How is the scent? do you grow it in full sun?
Here only Buff Beauty is in the middle of a second flush, with smaller blooms but wonderful colour hues
and Blush Noisette is just starting her second flush. The blooms are tiny, 3cm I think
I think i have identified my "fake" Madame Alfred Carrière, someone suggested Swan Lake and I think this is the one! Does anyone grow this rose? It doesn't seem to be very popular, maybe it's because of the lack of scent, which bothers me too, but the blooms seem to be quite resistant, even for such a small plant!Â
Re: TCL orders, seems as of last year you should under law be stung with a VAT bill to pay (on goods, p&p and any duties), and Parcelforce courier charges, and if you order is £135 or more then you will be liable for import duties as well (2.5% and then you pay VAT on this, too). Does that sound correct?
@Eustace your palais royale looks really beautiful! I find the bloom looking more like a modern shrub rose somehow.. while I thought Eden looks more like a hybrid tea sort of shape..Â
Really need some rain here, my front water butt is nearly empty. But that’s only because the pile into it had blocked and I only realised AFTER we’d had our last heavy rain!
The pond at my allotment plot is at the lowest water level it’s ever been.
Arthur Bell at the allotment wanted to be a tree. He's now casually leaning against the verbena. His lofty aim was too ambitiousÂ
Took these photos before the heat fries them to tissue paper. Ulmer Munster, unknown floribunda, Rosa de Molinard, Weg der Sinne, Miss Edith Cavell, Royal Celebration, Korresia, Blue Moon and Bonica. Another collage with the second flush of DAs - Summer Song, Olivia Rose Austin and Desdemona. Ebb tide, Eustacia Vye, unlabelled HT x2, Marie Curie, Perception, Timeless Charisma. And a few more lilies from the front, all grown in pots.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Lovely roses everyone, lots to catch up on since my internet was down yesterday and get well soon to the poor covid sufferers.
Roses are continuing crisping and shrinking here as the heat builds and builds. Of my mini competion between 3 different yellow rose blooms as to which was the fastest to crisp, Golden Beauty caved first, crisping badly by the end of the day, then Golden Celebration with Souvenir de Marcel Proust still looking really good. Surprising, since GB is part of the Kordes ‘Sunbelt’ range so should have withstood heat the best.
Not The Prince!
I had my suspicions, but now my original The Prince is putting out new foliage and buds and I can directly compare, I’m convinced my new TP was incorrectly labelled. I think it’s William Shakespeare 2000, since I have a new one of that too and they are identical in habit, foliage, buds, sepals, bloom form and colour. Damn!
The Prince has redder new growth, buds are a different shape and have distinctly exuberant sepals:
NOT TP/possibly WS2000 has greener new growth, fatter buds with conventional sepals, and consistently deep pink, petal-packed quartered blooms:
Some old photos showing Original TP’s many guises, but nothing quite like the above:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.

And a colourful summer combo:
