How bad is Elizabeth for shattering then, would you say, @Marlorena ? As bad as Eustacia Vye? EV is such a beautiful rose but she lasts about two days here.

.. 4 days in dry weather, 3 days in wet... EV similar I think but I've not noticed too much..  I suspect they're closely related..

Peter Beales now have 40% off container roses..... seriously tempted but I might pay them a visit...

    Thank you!

VERY tempting offer. Peter Beales have Bordure Camaieu in stock. If it is still there after payday next Friday... :)

Glad you and your garden are ok @Marlorena, quite frightening when that sort of thing happens.

I've been out playing with my new Easy Reach pruner - love the way it holds the cut off branches and doesn't drop them on my head!

@celcius_kkw, My EduH is about ten years old I believe, I'd have to check. It's not planted in a good situation though, too close to a wall/fence, too close to a very, very large birch tree, in very poor clay soil on a steep slope and faces East. Don't know what I was thinking of! I hadn't grown many roses before that and I've now learnt such a lot from folks on here, especially Marlorena. It's not even planted in my own garden as I put it outside my boundary wall/fence to cheer the neighbours up!
They love it when it does flower, although I don't see the blooms often, maybe once a week when I put the bins out. It has now reached the trellis on top of the fence so I have high hopes of it  next year flowering at the top and waving at me through the kitchen window!

@Lizzie27 gosh that’s one hell of a mature EduH ! It sounds like you’re not the biggest fan of it.. even if it has all those conditions working against it.. I must say for EduH it doesn’t bloom prolifically like some other climbers.. but each bloom is large and highly fragrant.. I’m sure it has put a smile on many a passerby with its scent :)

Havw you thought of replacing it with something else?

@Marlorena Glad the flood water dissipated quickly.. flash floods are indeed terrifying, as my mother once experienced it in the tropics.. water rose to knee height within minutes..!

Just been out and looked at my EdH (bin day tomorrow). It's roughly 9 ft high and about 6-7 ft wide but quite sparse. I believe it can get to 20 ft. I do like it and the perfume is to die for. The blooms are large, often too big for their stems so a bit floppy. it would probably do a lot better with a lot more water. I wouldn't put another rose there. I forgot to mention it's now competing with my wisteria which is trying to cover it.
