Hi, I’m new to these forums but have been a lurker for a while and have just spent an enjoyable couple of hours looking at the 300+ posts in this thread of all your beautiful roses. Very inspirational!Â
I actually stumbled across the forum by accident last year, when I was looking for a climbing purple rose idea that was similar to the short flowering ‘Veilchenblau’ (which I had already planted) and a post on here led me to discovering the rambling rose  ‘Purple Skyliner’.Â
I’m still relatively new to roses, only really growing them in the last 5 years, but I only started to learn and understand about them properly during the last two years of lock downs etc after we moved to a new house with a blank canvas garden.Â
I thought I’d also share what roses I currently have:
Climbers/Ramblers Veilchenblau Purple Skyliner Blush Noisette Claire Austen Snow Goose Crown Princess Margareta (we had two that we moved with us in pots and replanted in the ground in our new house)Â
Standard Roses
Polar Star Margaret Merril
Shrub Roses
Blue For You Lichfield Angel Ebb Tide Iceberg Silver Anniversary Penelope Lovely Bride (patio rose) Margaret Merril
New roses to our garden planted out this week:
Twice In A Blue Moon (really wanted Blue Moon as we had it in our old house but couldn’t find it)Â
Lady of Shallot (not really in keeping with my current colour theme but loved it in our old house and saw one left in a local garden centre yesterday so it had to come home with us).
Blush Noisette (1 year old)  & Purple Skyliner (2 years old and which sadly suffers with powdery mildew since we planted it but it’s much better controlled this year). I like them grown together.Â
Blue For You (a favourite, which has grown very healthy here)Â
Snow Goose (pic taken last year, it’s grown a lot more this year on to the trellis )Â
Penelope
Iceberg & Veilchenblau
Silver Anniversary
Polar Star & Margaret Merill (against the brick wall) Standards
Lichfield Angel
A selection showing Crown Princess Margareta, Purple Skyliner, Ebb Tide, Margaret Merill
Welcome from me too, @Veilchenblau, what a lovely selection of roses you have. Thanks for posting the photos, and I look forward to seeing how they progress for you.
My original plan was to only have white roses in the garden as they are my favourite. Â Just after we moved in, at the start of 2020 we planted Snow Goose, Â Polar Star, Clare Austen and Desdemona (lost that last rose and never replaced it but I have loved looking at the pics on here of it so maybe I should have). In the back garden I have a planting theme of purples, whites and limited pinks so the white roses fit in.Â
Later that year, I then spotted ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ and ‘Blue For You’ and thought one might fit in with the theme.Â
When I returned to the garden centre only ‘Blue For You’ was left in stock so that made my mind up for me. I understand ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ has deeper and richer coloured flowers?Â
It probably would have been my first choice but the ‘Blue For You’ we have tends to have a lovely healthy foliage,  it has shown no signs of disease.  It also flowers profusely, it’s just finished its main flush but will flower again soon hopefully. The flowers fade to beautiful multi shades of  bluey-mauve.
I added Veilchenblau later in 2020, I just liked the look of the picture at the garden centre, knew absolutely nothing  about it but wanted it to cover some trellis. Then realised it only flowered for one month which is a shame but when it’s in full flower it’s spectacular and I now have two clematis and Jasmine near it so they all have their turn when it’s faded.Â
This year I used the Blooming Amazing all in one soil enricher, mulch  and feed for the first time in the one bed with the Blue For You, Veilchenblau 2 x Polar Star and Lichfield Angel and they all seem to have loved it and have flowered well.
I love white gardens, I would consider 'Desdemona' a modern essential for that kind of theme, as it's just so good.. even though it's not always pure white.. I recently planted out 'Champagne Moment' after moaning about it earlier, but it seemed to suit the location so in it went.. and my neighbour was in awe of it when in full flush.. it does seem to be coping with this drought admirably..
'Lavender Lassie'.. arrived today.. 'Angela' ['Angelica'].. really impressed with this rose, sweetly scented and the cluster lasts for ages.. very healthy too.. 'Forever Royal'.. 'Nathalie Nypels'.. 'Mutabilis'..

Impressed by both the Blue for You and Rhapsody in Blue on this thread. What is the difference between them?
