I've been ill for the last few weeks so, no photos from me, but hopefully I can catch up a next week. We have a sunny forecast so I might try taking a vid of the pre-summer peak.
We are having a plant swap next Sunday - another good kick to clean up. I have house sitters coming to stay too, so I will have to get everything clear and in apple pie order so that things are easy and obvious for watering. I'm mostly worried about the many potted dahlias - but I'm sure they'll be fine.
@murasaki You see...with LoL and Open Arms, the petals just fall off, and then it's just a case of pruning the spent trusses off, followed by new growth and more blooms.
Queen of Sweden photos for @Victoria Sponge. I love this because it is dainty, at the same time has strong stems that hold the blooms upright. Pardon the poor quality of the whole plant photos (it is in between the apple tree and runner beans in true cottage style 😉)
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Morning, I am new to Roses so I can’t contribute much I’m afraid but do follow along and am learning lots from you all- thank you. We moved about 10 weeks ago and have quite a few neglected, struggling roses in the garden. Most now have flowers so I wondered if any of you experts might know what any of them are please? Not that it matters as they are all beautiful and smell lovely- I intend to nurture them back to health and hopefully next year I will be posting amazing pictures like yours! These are the pictures that it would be interesting to identify-
Your garden is really getting into the swing @Victoria Sponge, looks fab. Summer Sweetheart looks a great rose, we can forgive lack of scent when it looks that good, especially at the back of a border.
@lisamariecqs that’s a lovely garden and really accomplished, look forward to seeing more..
I hope the coming temperatures don’t crisp all your lovely rose blooms for those in the south. The Spanish Plume is pluming unbearably here with that horrible hot Saharan wind to boot. It’s 10am and already the thermometer on the shaded north side of the house is reading 28.2c, will be nearing 40 by the end of the week!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Thanks all for the nice comments. Re Summer Sweetheart, I think it was Ffoxglove who had this rose against a light painted wall and it really set it off nicely. It is a good top to bottom flowerer too, seems to naturally do that.
Thanks @Eustace, very kind of you to post extra photos. I see QofS is a very elegant rose and looks to be thornless. I wish I had more space for pink roses but I do try to blend colours where I can. I see newbie77 has this rose as well. I will keep it on the backburner
Welcome @lisamariecqs. You do have a lovely garden, glad you have joined us.
These two are on the ground, the Portland Rose, second year. The bush is an awkward shape this year but it is young yet. Interesting buds and a darker pink than Gallica officinalis. The Poet's Wife third year. A bit floppy but flopping in the right direction this year and to be fair it has been very windy. Two close-ups of Ness since it is one of my hardest working roses. It does have the sunniest spot in the garden though. I really like the range of pinks, it looks like a floaty fairy bush from a distance.Â

that's so great to hear! i think i know where to put LoL, now i have to find a place for OA too😅 What distance do you have between them?Â
They're only about 4ft apart, I don't know whether that is too close but they seem happy enough.
