Ayone have a rose that just doesn’t seem to be thriving? Mine is Souvenir de St Anne’s:
It’s about 35cm high and hardly grown since last year, looks much better in the photo than it is. I’ve had to cut out a few skinny canes that died and another tiny one, bottom right, is yellowing. It’s supposed to be shade tolerant but maybe getting too much where it is. @edhelka how is yours doing? Any thoughts?
First bloom on Harlow Carr:
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Nollie, mine is Papa Meilland. I assume I planted it too close to other roses. After two years it’s about three inches tall. I’m amazed it’s still alive. Not known for disease resistance. Probably the wrong rose for me anyway. If it does have RRD I’m thinking it will recover in a few years. Worth a punt. It’s in a tricky spot.Â
Funny isn’t it? There is no logical reason sometimes why a rose fails to thrive. SdSA is in really good soil, well watered and fed, no rose been there before…

I didn't keep 'Souvenir de. St. Anne's' because of its blooms, I just didn't like the rather muddled look of them.. 'Gabriel Oak' is a slow burner, best grown mollycoddled in a pot I think.
My French Tea rose 'Marie Nabonnand' getting into full stride.. delicious damask scented blooms..
'Ghislaine de Feligonde'.. 2nd season, I've got 2 of these thick, mostly thornless shoots coming up..  ..I like to see stipules, which in this variety are strongly fringed [pectinate].. ..the thornless and the prickly.. why it's sold as a thornless rose, yet flowering shoots have tiny prickles on them which can be quite irritating to the touch..
@Marlorena when I asked in here about the supposedly thornless GdeF (as per DA), I think someone, may be @Mr. Vine Eye told me that it is not the case, especially the small thorns which seem to be present in the branches.
Oxford. The City of Dreaming Spires.
And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
