" Adam Frost demonstrates how to build a rose arch, mulches his beds and plants a blackcurrant to train up a fence.
Frances Tophill visits RHS Wisley in Surrey to witness the seasonal colour that heathers can provide in the winter months. Carol Klein immerses herself in a sea of roses at Hanham Court Gardens near Bristol, and there’s a touch of the Mediterranean in Devon as Toby Buckland harvests a crop of home-grown olives.
There's a catch-up with three sisters from Dorset as they plant up their new borders and a visit to a spectacular display of tulips in Norfolk, as well as a chance to see what viewers have been getting up to in their gardens."
I enjoyed last week's programme especially Adam Frost's section and the Hanham Court Gardens - we've visited there several times over the years and it's spectacular when the roses are blooming, a very individual garden designed initially by the Bannermans. My beautiful Isaphan rose came from there and is still going strong.
"Monty Don gets stuck into some winter jobs - demonstrating how to store dahlia tubers, planting out a clematis as well as a container for winter colour and scent.
Nick Bailey shows that a conifer is not just for Christmas on a visit to Great Dixter in East Sussex. Rachel de Thame joins gardener and florist Arthur Parkinson as they create some spectacular seasonal table decorations using plant material sourced from the garden. And at Spetchley Park in Worcestershire, Advolly Richmond reveals the intriguing story of influential plantswoman and gardener Ellen Willmott.
Joe Swift visits a garden in Cumbria designed to shine in winter through its inspirational planting that favours structure over colour, and there's a masterclass in growing food for a year-round harvest from a gardener in Ceredigion. There’s also a chance to see what viewers have been getting up to in their gardens. "
The trouble is that all this comes too late to be of use. My flower/foliage arrangements, such as they are, are already in situ and there is no way there is any time to spare for such things on Christmas Eve!
Advolly, Nick & Rachel - hurrah - but thankfully no Adam Frost. Let's hope the viewers gardens are just ones where the owners have something interesting to say.
Clay soil - Cheshire/Derbyshire border. I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful
I got bored with the first one as I wasn't in the mood at all, but I started to watch the Adam Frost one later last night. I've always found his voice difficult [due to my sensory problems] but I'm trying to adjust to it, as he is so knowledgeable. I did fall asleep though, as I was tired after having a rather traumatic afternoon. I also thought the winter specials were going to be about winter gardening/winter views etc, so I think I was expecting something different from the programmes!
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...
Yes, @Fairygirl. They've turned out to be just GW snippets broadcast in winter rather than a special series about winter gardening. Not as hoped for but some good bits nonetheless. Like you I tend to fall asleep so always record it and then I can FF the irrelevant or irritating bits.

7 Chelsea Golds, knows more about garden design, than just about anyone.

Far too late to be lifting dahlias and picking your greenery for festive decs but still good to have some gardening at Xmas.
