Second of the Winter Specials,  8pm tonight

" Frances Tophill and the team continue to celebrate the joy that the gardening year brings throughout the seasons.

Rachel de Thame visits Anglesey Abbey in Cambridgeshire, a garden designed to look its best in winter. On a trip to the Knepp Estate in West Sussex, Arit Anderson hears how the principles of rewilding can increase biodiversity in our own gardens, and Nick Bailey meets a man whose potting bench is more like a laboratory bench where he grows hardy orchids from seed.

There's a gardener in Worcestershire who has amassed an astonishing collection of cacti and succulents, and a couple of friends in London share their passion for growing cut flowers. There’s also a chance to see what viewers have been getting up to in their gardens."

I did too. I think Frances did a great job at the helm. Really enjoyed the Orchids & Knepp Estate bits.

I remember a February visit some years ago. It was an absolute treat. Beautiful.

Yes I remember that daphne, think it was 'Jacqueline Postill'! We saw the specialist snowdrop collection at Anglesey Abbey earlier this year, well worth booking

I totally agree. Haven't enjoyed an episode that much in Yonks! I thought Francis a very natural presenter and I enjoyed the whole programme. Looking forward to Adam presenting next week.

I watched it as well this afternoon, and agree with @WonkyWomble & everyone else about Frances Tophill.

Anglesey Abbey has always been on my bucket list, and l particularly liked the characterful greenhouse :) .

    A very enjoyable programme.

You know I think I must have fallen asleep when the Anglesey Abbey bit was on. I'm going to have to watch it again!

  • I visited Anglesey Abbey in early spring the winter walk was stunning. The thousands of tulips under the Birch trees were flowering. Every imaginable plant that features in a winter garden is there. I think they have lots of visitors and the house and it'a history are very interesting. Behind the house are some gardens laid out by young gardeners that I believe work there. The way that they have used plants shows a lot of skill.
I have worked as a Gardener for 24 years. My latest garden is a new build garden on heavy clay.
