Just spent a lovely evening watching the best of Elton John on the BBC, so easy to forget just how many songs he has done.
Personally I love the early stuff, everything on Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
One of the very first albums I bought was Tumbleweed Connection, just perusing the playlist of songs now, gives me goosebumps.
He is iconic as an artist, I don't use that term lightly.

I have Don't Shoot Me I'm Only the Piano Player - same year of release but Jan, 1973 whereas Yellow Brick Road was in October.Ā  Ā  Fast worker!

Have been on an outing with the garden club today.Ā  Up at 7:30 which is not kind on teh day the clocks go forward, to get ready and head off to meet pals and share a car to Nantes.Ā  Spent the morning at a nursery specialising in camellias with a few rhodos, azaleas and hydrangeas too.Ā  Ā Learned about different varieties and how to grow them well plus how to propagate.Ā  Ā Treated myself to a white camellia and a two tone azalea.

Picnic lunch followed and then a visit to the main cemetery in Nantes which was laid out in the 80s over 300 hectare and designed to be an arboretum with trees and shrubs of special interest.Ā  Ā Absolutely fabulous.Ā  Ā Outstanding specimens included a yellow flowered magnolia Elizabeth.Ā  35 years old now and just stunning.Ā  Another was a seedling of magnolia Fairy Cream - more shrubby and very scented.Ā

There was also a liquidambar formosana which still has its autumn foliage which will only drop its leaves when the new ones are ready to grow in the next few weeks.Ā  They also had a photinia Red Robin which had been allowed to grow to tree size and had had its crown lifted - particularly interesting cos I've been thinking of doing that to one of ours which has grown too high for me to prune the top.

Lots of other wonders including some very rare threes from Vietnam and a good time had in the sunshine so lots of vitamin D too.

Possum is cooking dinner so I can flop, once I've been down to see my girls and pick some PSB.

Hope everyone has a lovely evening.

Yes Hosta! Fresh air is fine, but it should be the sitting down drinking cuppas kind.Ā

I hope you’ve all been behaving. I have that tingly skin you get post shower after a day gardening - missed that feeling!Ā

Catching up on GW now, as fell asleep watching it yesterday.

@Hostafan1 Ā Good advice fromĀ @Dovefromabove and @AuntyRach Ā  When I asked my nursing neighbours what should I do if I felt Covidy when I was on my own Ā - they said - stay inside, rest and paracetamol. Ā Drink plenty of water. Ā Don't even walk the dog! Ā I hope it only lasts 48 hours. Ā  Good night!
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.

  • Mega, mega day here, absolutely exhausted, where they all came from I've no idea. Queue at the gate at lunchtime, happy to come home and wander around the garden - and drink wine.Ā

I don’t think there’s my doubt that we will get rain today. I’m inside waiting for Shetland to start. 😁

    The Colchicums are happy though
