I'm not sure whether I'm annoyed or pleased. We looked after a nearby young street tree and it has thrived. Some others further down didn't - nobody looked after them. The council must've spotted our healthy tree and thought 'Oh goody. This must be a great spot for a tree' so they're in the process planting another one close by. Hole dug compost and support pole inserted. Now we'll have another tree to look after🙄
@JennyJ we stopped having milk delivered for the same reason. The original milkman used to deliver by about 6am but when he retired the new person never delivered before we had left for work. That created two obvious problems, firstly the likelihood that the milk would have gone off by the time we got home in summer and secondly it's a lovely sign to any local toerag that the house is empty and prime location for break in.
Just to point out that yes we too stopped (what I call) conventional deliveries years ago for the same reasons. These relatively new start ups have a different business model. They are based round a co-operative of farmers who are, in effect, supplying retail directly cutting out the big dairies and SMs. This is because a lot of dairy farmers were going out of business as they couldn't sustain the business at the prices they were given. The new services guarantee that the milk delivered will be fresher from that day, and delivered overnight to be certain its on your doorstep before 7am. We only get deliveries twice a week, but as its so fresh it keeps perfectly well. It is more expensive than from the SM, but if it keeps the farmers in business at a more sustainable price, we want to do it while we can afford it.
Can't get milk deliveries here and it's really hard to find pasteurised milk anywhere but we do always buy our cartons of long-life semi-skimmed from local co-operatives to support Vendée farmers. Ditto meat and poultry and fruit and veg which are all local or French whenever possible except bananas which come from French territories overseas and things like ginger and avocadoes.
If I were still in the UK I'd be supportiing local growers too and locating a good farm shop.
When we did live in Harrow we stopped doorstep deliveries after they changed the rotas and it was delivered after we left for work - south facing doorstep so it would cook all day.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.
"The price good men (and women) pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men (and women)."
The milkman who used to leave the milk on the doorstep when it was obvious that we'd gone already (car not there) couldn't seem to understand why it was a problem. He seemed to think we should be able to wait in for him to turn up. His attitude was as much the problem as the off milk, so that was the end of that.

It seems to blame Brexit for this surge in low welfare eggs but the eggs are coming from the EU. Other than that it's just more of the same stuff we knew where companies will pack anonymous cheap ingredients into processed food for profit. I thought consumers had won the battle against battery chickens years ago but here we are again.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
Why don't people use sensible crossing places on busy roads? I was sitting in the car waiting for my good lady to return from a shopping spree and saw a couple walking up the opposite side of the road pulling suitcases. Using my keenly honed Hercules Parrot skills I guessed they were heading the hotel about 100 yards up from where I was parked, and on my side of the road. Apart from the building looking very much like a hotel and having the name in dirty great letters across the front, there was nothing to suggest it might be the place they were looking for About midway between where I was parked and the hotel is a central refuge which would help any normal person cross this busy road safely. This couple walked straight past and then decided it would be a good idea to cross the road at its widest point, which is a staggered junction where it is 4 lanes wide rather than 2 everywhere else. They got half way across when one panicked on seeing a car approaching, ran into the traffic and then stopped! God knows how the driver stopped. I don't know their nationality but I think they possibly learnt a few new English words from that driver.
