I always tape a cardboard tube round the cactus when repotting.  Mind you, depends how far it fell before you managed to grab it  ;)

It didn't fall far thankfully.  It still wasn't a pleasant experience.  I think I probably still have a couple of spines in my finger so I'll have to keep an eye out for anything nasty starting up.

You've probably just triggered a cactus pox plague :#

It is hot, and steamy, which is unusual here, so we have the windows wide open but the shutters on ventilation setting.   The crickets are very noisy and I love their chirping but OH, who claims not to be as deaf as I think he is, can't hear them at all.

My son, bless him, visited briefly today and did half the power washing of the paving for me which I am duly grateful. However upon inspection later, my neighbouring plants are covered with muck, as are the house walls, porch, fences etc!

Always a lot of rinsing needed after a session of power washing!
