    @wild edges - such frequency of bugs seems odd to me.  September was the month for bugs when Possum was young - everyone herded back together in classrooms, be they nursery, primary or secondary school and all back from hols bringing bugs from elsewhere and sharing them.

    Today, despite a forecast high of 39 to 41C, OH has gone to roast himself playing golf.   He has given Possum strict instructions to make sure I don't hobble down to see my chooks or go upstairs.   Humph!   I was planning on being good anyway cos the swelling is almost instant when I do get up and move about and there's a limit to how many days I can sit about with ice blocks.

    Even hotter tomorrow so physio will be fun but Tuesday is expected to be in the low twenties and should be lovely.  The plants will be as relieved as me.

    He was feeling stir crazy and a bit frisky round the edges @floralies as he hasn't played for 2 weeks.   He is creamed up, hatted and has water and a snack to keep him going.  The only gardening has been all my watering jobs  - plus the chooks and dog walks and fetching and carrying for me and the golf Open, Tour de France and women's football on TV so it's not that he's bored.

    As I'm sure you know the extremely hot weather is all over TV. They were talking to one woman who talked all about how she was going to look after the pooch she was holding.  Then in what seemed an afterthought,  she said I will be checking what the care home will be doing to help my elderly mother!  Is it me???

    We had 2 years of no bugs at all thanks to Covid so all the kids are playing catch up now. The theory is that their immune systems haven't been kept as robust as they should be but I'm not sure about that. I agree it seems very odd at this time of year. They're generally only minor things but the youngest one can be a bit of a drama queen about these things. His big brother is far too busy to worry about being ill.

    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    We cancelled a short break in Kent, having booked a fancy pod in a cherry orchard. My wife had to have some unexpected surgery last week and is still in discomfort. The thought of motorway hold ups and staying in a small cabin that might - I don’t know - be roasting hot was too much of a risk. Yet another holiday has been given the flick.

    Are you allowed to call people 'drama queens' any more?

    Only if they are straight men.

    Sorry to hear that, BenCotto, hope she makes a speedy recovery. Much better at home with her own bed and loo, maybe you can rebook the cherry orchard for later. Might it be plagued by wasps though?
    I attended a conference in a centre in Rutland, next to a lovely lake, and thought what a lovely county it was.

    You've done the right thing @BenCotto.  I was itching to be home after my op but did find the car journey OK as it's on good roads and no jams and the deep pain meds were still working well.  However OH took me the bendy windy route to my first physio session last week and I ended up shouting at him as it was so uncomfortable.  best wishes to Mrs @BenCotto.

    @wild edges you may well be right about their immunity levels.  have you got play groups lined up for the summer hols?  That might help.

    @punkdoc Rasta doggy can be a drama queen and so can Possum but the worst is a lady at patch for whom everything is a drama;
