I can't resist an old book of helpful hints. I read them cover to cover and then promptly forget the entire contents.

Just had a call from somebody on behalf of British Gas.  "We need to come and install new smart meters, when is convenient?"  Me "No time for at least 3 months".  BG person "Oh, OK"
Same here,  I told her I don’t want one now or ever,  she said ‘ok thank you bye’
don’t be forced into it if you don’t want one, you don’t have to, it’s now law,  DuPont let anyone tell you it is.  We’ve got enough waves beaming about here, don’t want anymore.

Diesel in my town is at ÂŁ1.62/litre at the moment but at Waitrose a few miles away they're still charging ÂŁ1.75/litre. Sainsbury's have just announced that their sales are up 7% too. Do we really have a cost of living crisis or a greed crisis? All the big companies seem to be making record profits at the moment.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

@Lyn, it's almost tempting to let them come and then see their faces when they try to access the meter.  The cupboard it is in is stacked full and I can just manage to see the meter and get to the consumer unit if necessary.  I don't think they would be too happy if I said they had to remove everything, AND put it all back where they found it after.

That's an interesting typo :D  There's a big hairy spider that lives in my electricity meter box. I like to think she's protecting it from the smart meter mafia.

I've had a smart electric meter EDF for many years. They upgraded it a few months ago. I don't see the problem. I find it handy to see if I've left anything on by mistake and I don't need to let anyone in to read the meter
I was thinking of getting one for the gas. Why not? Should I be worried?

Petrol down here was 143.9 on Tuesday in a small independent garage on the A46, sorry, don't remember what the diesel price was @wild edges.

@B3, I believe the energy companies are going to use smart meters to charge customers different prices at different times of the day/night according to  demand/fluctuating wholesale prices if I understand that correctly.

This is the worry for me, and for the increasing amount of people who work from home I imagine. I really see no benefit for me in allowing the companies to monitor my usage so closely.

We find the smart meter very useful. We don't have to be there to let the man in and we can see what we use. I have one in my French house too. The old one was so high up on the outside of the house I had to climb a ladder to read the meter. In France they are threatening to charge more if you don't have a smart meter.

We have the newest type of smart meters for both fuels and are very happy with them. The accurate  billing has been very reassuring in current circumstances.
We couldn’t have the earlier type because of network problems apparently, but the new ones are fine now.
Cant see what folk are worried about. 😊
