I don't see removing people to Rwanda actually happening.  It seems to be one of the more ridiculous ideas they have come up with, and there have been many.  Unfortunately Europe in general, and France in particular, have never been interested in stopping the flow of migrants across their borders, as long as they carry on to somewhere else.
My understanding was that those seeking asylum anywhere in the EU had to request it at the first opportunity, but that didn't happen.  I'm not suggesting that they should all then be held at that point, but those who failed to do so would give up their right to be treated as such and would be liable to deportation as illegal migrants.

Government statistics from 2019 indicate over a quarter million immigrants arriving in France that year.  About a third are EU nationals with freedom of movement to work or live here.   There were about 80,00 who claimed asylum.

They estimate about 2,500 of them living in camps near Calais and trying to get to the UK.  These are mostly people who already speak some English and/or have family already in the UK.

I don't see why immigrants of any kind can't be treated humanely when they are processed and either accepted or sent home.  Shipping them to countries like Rwanda with dodgy history is outrageous and yes, Priti Patel should look in the mirror more and remember how she came to be in the UK and get an education and a career.

It's nasty now - but it's going to get nastier when we start to see climate-catastrophe migrants as well as those fleeing war and persecution.  Even within countries I would imagine.

I completely agree with that, but many of them are told to destroy all their papers so that they can't be sent home.  Once permitted entry to a country, any country, many will simply disappear and remain illegally.  That's not good for them as they are open to exploitation, or the country they are in.  There was a series of programmes following the UK Border Force teams tasked with finding illegal immigrants and getting them processed.  It was farcical as they would be taken in front of an immigration panel/court and then bailed to appear at a later date on condition that they reported to a local police station either daily or weekly.  It was no great surprise to discover that most never complied with that requirement.  They would be arrested again and the whole pointless cycle repeated.

Urrgh, ratty is back - just where I'd been moments earlier on my hands and knees wrestling with a hosepipe fitting onto a water butt tap. Going to get a rodent controller in asap because I can't bear gardening anywhere near it. Really freaks me out! Have taken the nearby bird feeders down. Anybody know what the current price is please?

Thanks @B3, I don't think our local Council is interested in rats any more but I'll try.

That's odd, looks like they deal with mice but not rats!!
