A lot of bees look like ivy bees. The key here though is that ivy bees don't really appear until late summer/autumn. This whole family is a bit of a nightmare to identify but you need to establish gender first and then work from there. You basically need them dead and stuck on a pin to get a proper ID though sadly.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

I caught this little guy napping on a cosmos. Not sure what it is.

Grousewing caddis fly. One of the few caddisflies that are easy to identify and they're very common, but this is the only record for the whole of Wales on iNaturalist and there's no records for my borough on NBN atlas either. Another case of a lack of looking though I think.

A couple of Bumbles from the garden this morning, they just adore the Verbena b.

  • Any idea on what this beauty is?

Found today sunning itself on one our our school doors.

Without knowing the size of it that's difficult, but if it's medium moth sized then I'd guess Yellow Tail going by the legs alone.
  • I think it is either a Brown Tail or a Yellow Tail.
