    Please could somebody ID this UFO?! It is about an inch long and makes a very loud buzz - similar buzz to a hornet - not quite so loud and deep. The black mark is on the plastic tub.

    Maybe a Horse Fly, but not 100%

    It looks like https://www.naturespot.org.uk/species/large-marsh-horsefly  but there are a couple of similar giant horseflies. They don't tend to bite humans but apparently it's not fun when they do :#

    If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

    Good old verbena. I spotted a large white on mine this evening. Just coming out into flower now. Lavender  bed out the front of my house is covered in honey bees and last night a hummingbird hawk moth. Love the summer!

    Looks like a Ivy bee.
