The soldier beetles are back in my garden, loving my astrantias!
Rhagonycha fulva
, the common red soldier beetle, also known as the bonking beetle (I wonder why?).

Just seen my first Hornet Mimic Hoverfly, our largest hoverfly, nearly an inch long and looks just like a hornet until closer inspection

@Jellyfire
Nice! Got a couple of those on my Eryngium 'Blaukappe' last Summer and hoping that more will visit now that I've planted many more eryngiums. Oddly enough I've never had one on any of my buddleias!

Havent got any Eryngium (adds it to wish list!) , but I guess they just go for their favourite of whatever is available.

This is why I always leave ragwort alone in a couple of spots in the garden. Seen lots of cinnabar moths this year 😍

Don't know much about IDing butterflies, but I think this is a fiery skipper. Enjoying the phlox whatever it is!
