Storm Damage

  • Much worse and more sustained than the 2 previous - and 'only' a yellow' warning.
Dog was running round the garden with the chicken this morning, as the gate had come loose. Chicken runs faster, apparently  :)
I dreaded to think what might greet me this morning.
A jumbo jet parked up? Sounded like it.
But (and I hardly dare write this) the greenhouse is still standing. It was taped up on Saturday. One roof panel will need replacing, but we reused the old one just to keep it watertight.

We have been so, so fortunate here on the outskirts Gloucester (not speaking for the rest of the county) as we seem to have missed the worst of all 3 of the storms.  My heart goes out to those who have not been so fortunate.  Floods following the storms seem to be hitting areas which get smashed every year.  I don't know how those poor people cope.

    No blue skies here.

    A room with a view it ain’t.
    Very Impressionist though.

If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Its very blowy here, certainly, but it's not abnormal for this time of year. It's gone on longer than Eunice, but Eunice at her worst, for maybe 3 hours, was really scary - gusts rather than sustained winds but that felt worse. It would have knocked me over if I'd been out in it. Franklyn is banging things around that Eunice had shaken loose and it wasn't pleasant walking the dog this morning, but I did walk the dog. Wouldn't have done that on Friday

Franklin was far more frightening up here than Eunice was. Impossible to get any sleep without the aid of ear plugs. I was convinced I'd be finding significant damage this morning but just a few chunks of mortar ripped out from the edge of the roof tiles so we got off lightly.

Might even get some sustained sleep tonight. Yay! :)

I play with plants and soil and sometimes it's successful

  • My plot neighbour is in South Africa at the moment.  Not sure whether to bother him with an email.  One of his best plum trees.

I wouldn't, might ruin his holiday and he couldn't do anything about it anyway.
Maybe break it to him gently on his return date.

  • He is from SA and lives part of the year there and part here. I was thinking of offering to get it cut up for him.
