  • We've been with Sainsbury's for years but this year they put the premium up by 60% so OH got on to gocompare and found a deal which was about 40% cheaper than last year!

@B3 How do you do it via M&S?

We’re with Hastings Direct  … ours went down a bit this year … about £25 IIRC so we stayed with them. They’re pretty reasonable anyway.

    Google M&S insurance.
I think a major aspect of the rates is perceived risk and claim history.

Just checked with M&S website and they don't do insurance for the channel islands or the isle of Man which is odd given Aviva do and as B3 said he's got Aviva insurance via M&S.

On checking mines actually gone up £54 and is now £274.81. Does that tally with others for a 3 bedroomed detached house with external garage?

I know its about the rebuilding cost but, house prices here have gone bonkers. A 3 bedroom detached property here is now advertised on average at £950,000. I wouldn't have a hope in hell if I was a young man starting out here in the channel islands now of buying a home.

I suppose the rebuilding cost here would be higher given its a small island and most building material's need to be shipped in.

MMMM..... how can I persuade the wife and all the kids with grandkids to move to France. I could by a Chateau with the sale of the house . We could all live under the one roof with my Dual national Irish passport :D
