Thanks everyone. No pain @punkdoc. The anaesthetist did his job well and its lasted since Monday am. I have a schedule of painkillers and anti-inflammatories to control things and the only problem is the swelling which makes it stiff when getting up and down or manoeuvring. Even that's going down. Brilliant service all round.

Is the knee bending machine the instrument of torture where you strap your leg to it and the machine bends the leg further than you want it to? I was on one of those after knee surgery, not knee replacement. They are not fun, but are effective.
Pain control is critical. Get it under control and keep taking the tablets. It's far better to keep it under control, than to be 'brave' and try without painkillers. Then to discover that you really do need them and have to battle to get the pain back under control.
It lies flat on the bed and I set the angle to which it will bend - 70° today - and then put my leg in and turn it on. Being short of sleep, as ever after a stay in hospital, I dozed off in this pm's session. Yes, I will keep taking the pills. Thanks @KT53.

With all the bickering and backstabbing, the lies and the rumours swirling round 10 Downing St, only one individual has stayed aloof, kept his own counsel and been dignified throughout. Larry for PM, please.

Those knee bender machines are great, if you can manage the pain.
