That's good @Allotment Boy. I started prepping two new big pots to put roses in but undecided whether to plant them tomorrow or wait a few more days to see what the weather throws at us.

We were very amused this morning when two small toddlers spotted us walking towards them in the lane " granny,  grandad!!!" Obviously their own granny had white hair like mine and their grandad a walking stick like OH's.

Many moons ago we were out for a walk when a little lad, no more than toddler age, ran up to me shouting 'Daddy, Daddy'.  Thankfully both of his actual parents thought it was funny.  Apparently he did it to every bloke of approximately the right age.
  • Many moons ago, a small child ran up to me in the supermarket,  grabbed me round the legs but then looked up and said in a very accusational tone NOT DADDY!  Luckily his parents came round the Isle and thought it was funny.

We have a bright, frosty smashing sort of day. Hurrah!
The mix of snow/sleet/rain/gales of the last week or more, have all stopped and even the wind has dropped, so no wind chill.   :)

Unfortunately, the swans have disappeared from the pond up the road. Typical - just when I started taking my camera each day to get a photo. Typical - it's just like the pandas on the Kit Kat ad  :D
I'm hoping they're ok though, and maybe making a nest somewhere nearby . Fingers crossed.

One situation where I got the laugh rather than the parents was on a visit to Dunster Castle.  We were climbing the path up to the castle and a family with a boy of about 6 was coming down.  The boy seemed to be saying 'box' repeatedly, almost under his breath.  As he got close to us he shouted it at the top of his voice, although it wasn't 'box' it was 'bollox'.  The look of horror on his parents' faces was priceless.  We did manage to contain our laughter until we had passed them.

@Fairygirl , we recently stayed in a converted boathouse in the Lake District and swans would visit every day. They adored the specialist duck food we bought from a nearby garden centre so, when yours return, that might entice them to stay.

Blimey @BenCotto - the bird food's dear enough for the garden birds. I don't think I want to fork out for swans that are 2 miles away!  :D
We do have quite a few areas near here that have swans - lots of random little natural ponds etc, as well as the park with a larger pond. I don't know if they just got slightly deviated from there, but it was nice seeing them. There's always ducks in and around it. Lots of water sources generally round here- rivers and burns everywhere, that eventually feed into the Clyde.
It was a completely natural area, that was permanently wet, and has been slightly 'developed' in recent years, as there was a new estate built at the top of the slope about ten years ago. There's lots of houses gradually encroaching in that area, which was largely farmland, but it was inevitable.

I genuinely do remember when it was all just fields.... ;)

I'm really chuffed, my daughter's been given an award (and a large bottle of bubbly) by her company for a "Significant Contribution in 2021". Most unexpected - and hopefully I get to sample the bubbly next weekend!
