Water back on this morning. It went off late afternoon yesterday, and was still off at midnight/1pm. Those chaps spent the rest of their Christmas Day and through the night in pouring rain, sleet and sub zero temps fixing it.
I take my hat off to them.  :)

  • Indeed @Fairygirl … heroes don’t all wear capes … and all that 👍

There was an item on BBC Breakfast today with a team trying to trace and fix a leak.  It's not just a case of digging down to uncover the pipe and then repair it.  In this instance they had to get under sewers, gas pipes, and various other utilities just to access the pipe.  Then they have to find the actual leak point, equipment on the surface can only provide the general area.  Only then can they set about doing the work on the leak, whilst still trying to protect the other services.

The water board had been working on a long section of our main road here from early July until quite recently. A hellish job - and the weather wasn't particularly pleasant a lot of the time. It's only a 2 lane road, so it often had to be completely closed.
As someone who worked outdoors all year round for over twenty years. I know how unpleasant it can be. A couple of the blokes were very cheery and we had a quick chat on many days when I was out for my walk.
Mainly discussing the idiots who ignored every sign about the road being closed, but that didn't stop them driving on regardless.... :/

They need to get one of the artists out who create the optical illusion pavement art with chalk.  A big hole drawn just after the roadworks would at least scare the carp out of the idiots

That's lovely @Palustris, congratulations. Just the sort of things a child might wonder about.

There are a couple of books I wish I had been good enough to write. The Phantom Toll Booth and The 35th of June. This story is my take on them.
