Got cracking and into town to do food shopping. S'truth it's cold out there, the wind cuts right though yer. Plans for today are finishing the difficult jigsaw puzzle in between cleaning through the house. Clean linen on the bed and that's me done. Aye right.

The car windscreen had ice on the inside as well as an extra hard layer on the outside. Created a mini-blizzard inside the car trying to clear it off.

Afternoon all,  Cold and sunny here too.  We've fired up the woodstove the last couple of days so that we can save on the central heating.  The last two boxes of deccies went down the cellar this morning so that's it for another year.  Not sure what I'll be up to the rest of the day but it definitely wont involve any gardening.  Had lots of seed catalogues land on the mat over the last couple of days but can't seem to get motivated yet.
Didn't sleep well last night, lots of strange dreams.  Stay warm wherever you are folks.

Greetings Forkers.  House almost back to normal.   After making pumpkin soup for lunch I spent my morning taking down all the Xmas decs and boxing them up for another year.  Just the branches hanging from the ceiling to take down and store the tree to post out of the kitchen window then OH can go round with his bloody Dyson and scoop up the bits.

Bright and sunny and calm but very cold so I won't be gardening this pm other than sorting out the next lot of seeds I want to sow.   Didn't sleep well again so not exactly bursting with vigour today.

Maybe time to get a good local plumber in @Busy-Lizzie.  I've been very impressed with the ones here and in Belgium too.

Stay warm and safe everyone whatever you're doing.

There aren't enough local plumbers here @Obelixx. Although he's English he is local, just too busy.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Hello all, We had a frost overnight and it's still very cold but sunny. The wind has dropped thankfully, yesterday it was a biting northerly one which was horrid.

We're thinking of getting a plumber/electrician in to change our shower to an electric one, OH would quite like a more powerful one and our en-suite is a bit too far from the combi boiler. I would also like to have the shower cubicle re-furbished if that's possible, it's now nearly 15 years old and looking shabby with hard water scale in inaccessible places. Will have to get some quotes in first. We have a local very good electrical/plumbing company we've used before. I'm getting ridiculously excited about the new en suite window being put in soon. No more hopping on and off a footstool!

We did some more apple tree pruning just before lunch whilst it was still sunshiny but it was too cold to do the other trees and the pear. Unfortunately the spring broke on the long reach pruner so OH has got to look for a new one.

How's MIL doing @Punkdoc, is she settling into the care home gradually?

    Keep warm and safe everyone.

Woke to 5C, and an email to say that the parcel that was due yesterday is coming today. However, it was sunny and bright, so we thought, s** it, left a box outside the front door for the postman and went off to the coast for a walk.

Despite the cold, and many kids back to school today, the promenade was as packed as ever. Less children, but lots more of us older persons. Two coaches arrived while we were there, and disgorged loads of elderly tourists.
The mobile Covid testing van had set up its usual Wednesday stall, and was dispensing packs of LFTs. For once, it was doing a roaring trade, and had run out of kits by the end of the morning. Seems like some of the messages must be getting through.

Got home to find my new shoes had been delivered. OH raised eyebrows when he saw that they were identical to two pairs I already have, apart from the colour! Had to point out to him that currently these are the only shoes I wear when I go out ( sensible walking shoes, Gore Tex, and made in England ) and they were half price in the sale.

(We won’t mention all the other shoes I own, most of which are only suitable for looking pretty over very short distances! )
