Good morning folks 😊 ☕️ A gorgeous frosty moonlit morning … I was saying to OH yesterday I think we’ve had more frosts this year than we had in the last three years put together. Hopefully it’ll slow the slugs and aphids down a bit 🤞
We had about 3 weeks of continuous frost in April/May last year - for plants that had already started their spring growth spurt it was a disaster 😩
Morning all - quiet one planned here, mostly chewing my nails 😉
Frosty again but no fog, unlike yesterday. Looks as though there could be some sunshine.
May not have mentioned that Son 2 rang yesterday, his 4yr old son has tested positive for Covid. His school contacted them as there was Covid in his class. I was with them for lunch on Sunday so I have to have a Covid test too. DIL had given me one as I hadn't been able to buy them, run out. I told our local district nurse, who is English, and she said she'd come round and do a PCR. She thought I shouldn't be out hunting for tests around town. As I've had 3 vaccinations the lab testing is free. French NHS.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
We've had David Jason overnight so I've had to interrupt my tennis viewing to clear windscreens for OH and eldest Back in the warm now and left to my own devices for the day whilst they're at work
Fog and frosty here too. I recall the same experience as Chicky last year. This seems to happen more in recent years. I was going over some Acers yesterday but one in a pot on the patio has sap rising already, luckily I had only cut a very thin branch, but it was quite a shock to see sap this early in January.
Last year the late frosts for us lasted all of April and well into May (just checked the local weather station to see if my memory had exaggerated things ….it hadn’t). Maybe it was milder in East Anglia.
Oh no @Busy-Lizzie ….hope you test negative 🤞🏻. Just a word of warning though on this new strain - my sister’s family found it took 8 days to pass from one to the other of the family. Each went into isolation in their “Covid attic” the day they tested positive and had no further contact with the family. All are triple jabbed. BiL tested positive on Boxing Day morning, niece on 2nd January and sister on 9th January. Sister has just texted to say she has had her 2nd negative test this morning, so is now FREE. (Sorry, this is probably a discussion for another thread, but seeing as this might affect @Busy-Lizzie personally, I am sharing it here 🥸). None of them had symptoms any worse than a grotty head cold.
A beautiful frosty one too. Definitely much colder this year than last at this same time, although after a lovely warm spell in late spring we had an awful few frosty days that killed off all my hydrangea buds. Hopefully, it will all be in a better order this year.
Having a day 'off today' although a bit of paperwork to do, not much and then I am hoping to get into the garden and do a little bit of clearing so I can see the bulbs and hellebores peeking through. Also going to hose down the back covered terrace, because I think on a sunny day it might be sheltered enough to sit out in on occasion and I don't want to sit there thinking "oh it does need a clean".
Felt a bit unsettled with some news from the ski resort where we are going in 3 weeks, a poor 5 year old girl was killed in a freak accident on one of our favourite (and easy) pistes on Saturday. Hard not to get too agitated, it can be a dangerous activity, but I have just told myself, so can just crossing the road. Feel awfully sorry for the family and all those involved, a shocking thing to happen. I didn't tell Charlie the details but have had a chat about how we muct be vigilant about others on the piste too and not taking any chances.
Have a good day all. Hope the sun is shining wherever you are.

What an excellent service @Busy-Lizzie - hope it's negative. Covid making its presence felt in my daughter's primary school, including the class she teaches. They are all taking daily LTFs now and so far the family is OK. We were going to resume Friday curry nights at ours but not a good idea to do that yet. Crisp and frosty here but no wind so doesn't feel that cold.
Morning all, a clear cold and frosty start, no wind so the sun feels quite pleasant. Topped up the bird feeders and checked the pond heater was still working. Hope all is well with your PCR test @Busy-Lizzie. Have a good day all, catch up later.
I read about that in the French newspapers @D0rdogne_Damsel, very sad. I don't suppose it happens very often. Watch out for snowboarders. When I used to ski they were usually young and more reckless than skiers.
