Is that fruit salad on the top shelf Hostafan? Nothing like a nice fruit salad.ย

A meal in one then Hostafan.

How things change. Not been feeling up to the mark this past couple of days and my granddaughter has been quizzing me. For a start, she told me to drink plenty and has now decided that I have an ear infection. She's probably right actually but it used to be me asking her these questions and telling her what she should do.ย

    Morning all.

Oh dear @Uff, should you get some antibiotics before the bank holidays?

Like the sound of @punkdoc's dinner.

At least you have the essentials @Hostafan1, ketchup in the door, but mind you don't run out of milk.

I am having a quiet day today, no food preparations, my fridge is much like Hostafan's. I did all my Christmas cooking last weekend when we had the early Christmas at Daughter 2's (she's the one we called Possum @Obelixx). Tomorrow I will be with Son 2 and family. Presents are wrapped, 5 children. They've all been Covid tested. I've only been out once since Monday when I saw my daughters, that was to the plant nursery in the open air, hardly anyone there.

All lateral flow tests done, and thankfully all negative, so Mr C is off to pick up his Dad. ย Phew !

Still got my fingers crossed for @Allotment Boy โ€ฆ..its going to make peeling the potatoes a bit fiddly.

A day of veg prepping and stock making โ€ฆ..along with Carols from Kings here too. ย And maybe a bit of Aled Jones and Perry Como thrown in there too.

In the unlikely event that I have too many chores to do later,

I would like to wish everyone on here a very Happy Christmas. Hopefully everyone will get to do something they want, with the people they want. Please stay safe.

There is a lovely smell of spiced red cabbage coming from our kitchen, the main accompaniment for our Duck tomorrow.

Quick break from present wrapping to pop in here to see what everyone is up to.ย  You all appear to be busy with your Christmas preparations...
OH just back from town with last minute bits.ย  I had instructed him to buy some nice gold paper napkins.ย  He tried all the posh shops and they just laughed at him - sold out days ago!ย  So we have some with Santas on.ย  They'll be fine - it's only for Boxing Day lunch and tea.
Right - back to the wrapping, then a bit of ironing and then to make the cheese & onion flan to go with our Boxing Day tea.

Been to pick up a friend's turkey order from the butcher and deliver it to them. She had a suspect Covid test the other day and is now isolating while waiting for a PCR confirmation/clear. They were due to host both sets of parents tomorrow so it is all a bit fraught today.
Our beef is in the fridge and I need to delve into the garage wine store for suitable accompaniments. Montrachet would wash down the starter nicely but there are too many options for red - SuperTuscan or Barolo or Bordeaux.

Always Bordeaux with beef for me, @steephill

  • Bordeaux with roast beef for me too @punkdoc ๐Ÿทย

Iโ€™veย been rootling around in the garage too @steephill and have emerged with a bottle of Haut-Medoc โ€ฆ that should be perfect with our rib of Red Poll beef. ๐Ÿ˜‹ย

  • Almost everything is done now โ€ฆ bowls of chocolate mousse are in the fridge โ€ฆ. Iโ€™ve made the Devils on Horseback and Pigs in Blankets and the gammon is studded with cloves and slathered with wholegrain mustard and marmalade. Theyโ€™ll go in the oven this afternoon when I bake the sweet potatoes for supper.ย The spiced red cabbage is โ€˜maturingโ€™ and Iโ€™ve made a big bowl of coleslaw.ย ย Now Iโ€™ll start the sprouts โ€ฆ
