Morning all.ย  Sounds like your daughter is beginning to get her life sorted with help from her loving Mama @Busy-Lizzie.ย  Feel for you with your MIL worries @punkdoc.ย  And of course thinking very much of you @Hostafan1 - glad you had a lovely family visit.
The Christmas Street Market went very well though it was a long and tiring day - from 6.45am to 5.30pm walking up and down the street in my high viz!ย  But everyone enjoyed it, the traders and shopkeepers did good business and I had excellent help from Rotary with the setting up and packing up.ย  My hips were aching yesterday though!ย
And now I'm back to all the other things.ย

Local councillor (the snippy one) is demanding an update on the local community bus we are piloting.ย  I think the pilot is showing that there just isn't the demand as it is only picking up a couple of people from the remote villages near here each week and even though it was laid on for the street market, no-one used it.ย  Can I now ask all the shopkeepers to offer a discount for users?ย  I'm saying no to that - I have no time to go around asking them all and even if I did - how would I advertise that in the villages?ย  They are remote from each other and it was the devils own job getting the info about the bus service out to them.

I do have a pleasant task though.ย  It is our local historical societies Christmas social soon and it is my job this year to make the table decorations, which get raffled off at the end.ย  I picked up 10 cyclamens for ยฃ15 from one of the sellers at the market on Sunday (bargain!) and I intend to wrap each pot in some kind of paper or fabric, with a ribbon round it to look lovely on the table.

  • @Hostafan1, glad you can still find things to laugh about, you have such strength.ย
How's this one then: I have a confession,ย  I have just stabbed the wife - twice!
Before you all rush to ring 999 it was only a finger prick. She had to do an antibody test for the twins study , the last time she tried to it it herself she couldn't get enough, I don't think she pressed the lancet thing hard enough. So I did this one, still the first stopped before we had filled the tube to the line so I had to do it again,ย  must be loosing my touch.ย  ๐Ÿ˜„

Hello everyone.ย  OH's birthday today and we have dance class this evening so Possum is cooking him a special lunch.ย  No doubt he'll have a snooze this pm.ย  ย No question of going out as that Irish storm has arrived ahead of schedule and it is tipping down and blowing a hooly and set to get worse this afternoon.ย ย

Good you are near enough to help out your daughter and the children @Busy-Lizzie.ย  It'll take them all a while to get over the initial shock of the changes and then get to grips and make a new life but it'll be all the easier for having family support.

Well done with your market @didyw.ย  ย We haven't been to any here cos of bad weather.

Glad you're feeling better @punkdoc and that you've had a good visit from your family @Hostafan1.

Hope everyone is tucked up safe and warm today and throughout all the winter storms to come.

    Morning all,
An early start for us this morning as OH had a physio appointment for 8 am right the other side of the city. We didn't realize it would still be dark at 7.15 am as we don't normally surface till much later. Dark, cold and windy, not a good surprise. However, after an hour's session and much peering at the X-rays,ย  the physio is now going to refer OH to the consultant at long last and will see him again in January so progress has been made. He might possibly have dodgy knees as well which isn't good news.
Scooted back home as weather was/is awful and treated ourselves to toast and marmalade with a much needed coffee. Washing machine is on it's 2nd load so there may well be ironing to do this afternoon. I've battened down the hatches and refilled the bird feeders - the goldfinches are hanging on for dear life as they're swinging to and fro.

@didyw, so pleased for you that the Market went well, you must be exhausted today so take it easy for a bit.ย

Enjoy the lamp hunting @Busy-Lizzie, nothing like a bit of retail therapy to cheer daughters when they're down. It will take a while for the children to adjust to the new circumstances but hopefully they will in time. Maybe you might be able to get your grandson on his own for a chat sometime?

    @Hostafan1 - I couldn't possibly comment!ย ย
Glad the visit to hubby went well, look after yourself, hugs.

Morning @tui34 and @Obelixx and Birthday wishes to your OH.

    Keep safe everyone.

Hosta,my old man has mentioned eating faggots, I think that must be a Sarf London thing!!!
  • Ma loved faggots from the market ... she was from Bedfordshire ... they're readily available in Norfolk and Suffolk too.ย ย

That soup looks good @tui34 ... but I've just made a spiced cauliflower soup ... it's been whizzed in the blender and a good dollop of creme fraiche has been stirred through it.ย  That'll do for a couple of days ... hopefully!

Now I've got some chicken thighs simmering with onions, ginger and spices ... there's a can of coconut milk waiting to be added to turn it all into a korma for supper ...ย

Faggots and gravy - Midlands I always thought.

Possum has made hot and sour prawn soup and a sticky spiced beef stir fry for lunch, all as requested by OH.ย  ย Soup delish but beef stir fry too rich and gloopy for me and Possum tho Oh loved it.ย  ย  Dessert will be a lemon meringue tart - after dancing this evening.

The rain is even heavier at the mo and managing to lash at the windows on all 4 sides of the house cos the wind is so strong and blustery and whirly.ย  ย I've had to put out second rations for the wild birds already and will rug up and pop down to see how the chooks are doing shortly whilst harvesting lemons for the tart.

I see that nice Dominic Raab is in bovver again.ย  Seems to be a classic case of someone promoted beyond their level of competence.

Can you identify anyone in government to whom that doesn't apply ....... I'm struggling to think of anyone ...ย

I think any Tory MP with any degree of common sense is keeping their head down in order not to get tainted by association with this shower, and praying for it all to be over soon and someone else to move into No 10 ...ย
