That looks delicious @tui34 … we might try that in the not too distant future 🤤
There are some big trees along your road @Busy-Lizzie …. I think it’s a conservation area isn’t it? You need permission for a lot of things, but if it’s low over the road I expect it’ll be granted for safety …. do you get double decker buses through the village?
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Not even single decker buses @Dovefromabove! A planning person said he'd take a look and if it thought the branch should come off he'd let us know. He hasn't so far.
Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.
We keep trying to get a very tall birch tree cut down which the Council maintains. It's uncomfortably close to the house (3 metres+) and showers all its leaves/catkins/seeds in our courtyard every year. The Council told me it was inspected last November and found to be safe so I doubt if they'll do anything about it until it falls down in a gale. It's much taller than the house and other trees nearby so catches the full force of a south-westerly. Quite scary!
You both need to point out your concerns in recorded letters to the council and get something from them in writing @Busy-Lizzie and @Lizzie27 and check your insurance policies, especially Lizzie because if it falls on your house thru council neglect your insurance is not going to cough up.
Good game with the chooks tonight. I had fashioned a gateway thingy which allowed them in and out of the potager but stops Bonzo dog getting in and hoovering up their afternoon treat of sweetcorn or mixed rice. OH didn't set it up properly after weeding the new broad bean bed this pm so when I went down to shut them up for the night nobody was in bed! Dusk, so much searching by torchlight. I found 3 huddled up in a new island bed, hiding in the shrubs and perennials but after half an hour of hunting in the dark and listening hadn't found t'other pair. So many places they could hide so I fetched Possum and OH to help. Finally found Scruffy hiding in long growth in a bed by the ruined barn and then Greta (I vont to be alone) hiding in a corner of OH's barn under a pile of brushwood.
Everyone all tucked up safely now and the pork crackling none the worse of the neglect and extra cooking time.
Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

My heart went out to your chooks @Obelixx - all trying to find somewhere safe and warm until you came and rescued them. It seems crazy to me that people have to get planning permission to take out tree branches or even just lift the crown or prune them though I assume that is just in conservation areas. Still it keeps planners in a job I suppose and is a revenue stream for the local authority.

Your chooks seem to give you and us much amusement.
