Nor me, @Busy-Lizzie - I'd far rather garden in the warm. As to the pruning, it is a little early for me but I had finished sweeping up the leaves in the back garden and it was still sunny at 3.30 ish so I thought I'd keep going. Marlorena on the rose thread has started her pruning and if it's good enough for her, it's good enough for me. I aim to prune a few roses at a time over the next four weeks, weather and energy permitting. If I ever get to my daughter's I rashly promised to prune all hers as well.

Thanks @Lizzie. Good luck with daughter's pruning - that's something I'm not offering my daughter, she has over 100 roses!

    Hello all,

Exceptionally busy day today at work, had to refuse several potential diners as we were completely full and it was far to cold to sit outside. No idea why, but it does keep happening, astonishing since we are so far into November. Did mean my cake baking day went out the window as I had to help with the orders. Now have a rush order of Mince Pies for Friday to do tomorrow as a big order came in from the shop I am supplying in Excideuil, a local town. I didn't expect that in November either.  :open_mouth:

Feeling very guilty/frustrated about the garden, it desperately needs putting to bed and I have completely missed my bulb planting window, almost feel a fraud posting on this gardening forum.  ;)

On the plus side, two nice, smart mature ladies came in asking for a job today (seperately) one can't start until the end of January but is coming for a trial day next week, the other seems lovely, but has limited English, but actually, we all speak French and more and more of our customers are French so I am inclined to give her a trial too. It would so take the pressure off if I don't have to be in the kitchen for so much of the time. I thought it would be deadly quiet by now but it doesn't look like it at all. Several local businesses and the mairie's office have opened accounts with us, so the workers come in and eat and we send the bill on to the head offices. Nice regular income. If it keeps up I could certainly afford another couple of staff. We'll see.

I did manage to find an hour to take Charlie clothes shopping this afternoon, nothing he owns fits him anymore, he's growing daily, widening out, broad shoulders, wide thighs, long legs, it's quite disturbing, he is eating like a horse. I just can't fill him and tee shrts he was wearing a month ago are stretched at the seams, a bit like the incredible hulk.... bless him. He is doing his work experience in a bank and has bought a shirt and nice smart pullover to wear whilst there. It is not until the 1st of December, I hope it still fits him by then!

Got my Covid booster booked too for the 14th December, hope I don't suffer like the rest of you, but definitely worth it to feel secure.

OK, must go, have a Christmas Party Menu to send out, it is to a Luncheon Club who I have been trying to get to dine with us since we opened and they have always refused, saying it's too 'English'. Seems my offer of Christmas Crackers is tempting them....

Have a good evening all, hugs to those who need them. xx

Phew! @Dordogne_Damsel, you make me feel tired just reading your post but great power to your elbow.

I am assuming my 13 year grandson will be doing much the same as Charlie, he's going to be sooooo tall

Dordogne damsel, I remember a friend with three strapping teenage sons, being recommended to fill them up with heavy fruit cake. Fine if they like it, and very heavy on calories.
  • Sounds like a plan @Ergates, luckily he loves fruit cake. At the moment my deep flled Apple Pie and Rainbow Cake are disappearing fast, Breakfast this morning: 2 x bacon rashers, 2 x sausage, 2 x  fried eggs, mushrooms, baked beans, 4 x pancakes, maple syrup, blueberries and vanilla icecream.

Just popped in to say night night.  Had a bad night last night and read throughout most of the night, trying to get the day out of my brain (2 big heavy duty meetings) and was consequently so tired when I woke up that I went back to bed.  The evening meeting went on so long that I only caught the last bit of Bake Off on E4+1.  And what a surprise that was.  All of the entremets looked lovely.

    Morning 😀

College for me today, so an early start 🤭😵

Highlight of yesterday was the peanut plant that the West Dean team grew under glass this year …..never see one before.  Things that look like root tubers are actually underground seed pods 🥜. Fascinating 🧐.  They are planning on growing a few more next year and making a bit of a visitor display from them.

    Looked a bit like this:

  • Good morning all 😊 ☕️. Hope we've all had a restful night.

Anyone know what the really bright star low down in the southwest was when I woke this morning?
@Lyn you're good at stars … can you tell me?
