We finally got some petrol for the little car today. They had 4 staff in yellow tabards keeping things under control. This is a little independent place on the way to the Allotments, I spied it out on my way then phoned her to let her know. She still queued for nearly an hour. Oh but the crisis is over because Boris says so, must be us then.😠
Grump of the day: a couple of weeks ago, my GP's surgery phoned me to book me in for my annual arthritis review, including blood tests. The appointment was this morning, so I went along, waited for half an hour or so, went in, was asked a load of questions, she tapped away on the computer, then was done. What about the blood tests? I asked. Oh, not allowed to do those in this room because it's got a carpeted floor, I'll make you another appointment.
Why, when we're told frequently that the NHS is woefully short of resources, do they waste an appointment by booking it into the wrong room for the procedure?
It wasn't a complete waste of time for me because I mentioned that I'd had a text inviting me to book my flu jab, and she was able to give me the jab so I don't need to spend ages on the phone to book it, but I still feel a bit grumpy.

I passed 2 empty stations and one with fuel but a very very long queue yesterday, so it certainly doesn't seem to be over here. Ekeing out the qtr tank we have left (don't need the car much, thankfully) and hoping we can fill up in a week or so. Seems counterproductive to go and queue for it before we really really need it, although we're near the level we'd usually refuel at.
JennyJ, enough to make your blood boil! Our surgery isn’t even offering blood tests right now because of shortage of blood sample bottles. Haven’t heard the carpeted floor excuse before! And they made you wait for half an hour. Our surgery is operating on don’t turn up till 5 minutes before, and has been very good at seeing people on time to avoid cross infection in the waiting room.
I turned up 5 minutes before . Only about every third seat was in use so I didn't feel particularly at risk. Everyone else in there looked a good bit older than me, most of them were in for flu jabs, wearing masks, no-one coughing or sniffling so it could have been worst. And it's only for routine tests that I have every year so a delay won't hurt, it's just the waste of time that annoyed me. I suppose carpeted floors are harder to clean if they spill something. Come to think of it, they normally ask me to bring a wee sample as well and they didn't this time. I'll take one with me anyway next week (to save going back a third time if they do want one).
