Having never voted Labour or Tory in my life. I'm quite happy to criticise them both. I've said before. " when you write your own rule book( to suit yourself ), it's easy to say "no rules have been broken" " The whole thing stinks.
I suppose I can't really blame the Government but how come the minute I put my hands in the sink to start washing up, I immediately want a pee ? Cross legs, dry hands and make a dash for the loo. It must be someone's fault surely
What is it with water that creates water? I know putting my hands in a bowl of water will make me want to go - so I have to pre-empt it. And does 'suggestion' also affect you? Me and the wife couldn't get out the door at times. We'd get our shoes on and were just ready to go and '....I'll just nip to the loo...'. Off with the shoes... Then by the time my wife or I came out, you could guarantee that that suggestion made the other one think that they wanted to go too. Off with the shoes... and by the time that person was ready, we started the loop all over again. Like a yawn Mexican wave...a Mexican pee wave....
Peter Oborne opinion piece! Keeps banging on about funding. No party is clean if they have external funding, as in not from pure membership. You think union funding is benign for Labour? Personally I'd like to see all external funding to from party politics and less money available to parties. Direct individual membership funding and a small state funding only. That is the only way external corrupt influences like lobbyists, unions and wealthy donors can be stopped.
As to not being the party of x, y or z. Jeez how outdated! Does he really think the old working class exists as the Labour voting block it once did? Laughable opinion. How the heck can such a block vote for tories across the North of England? Don't the Scottish tories have more representation at all levels of Scottish politics than Labour? A more socialist part of UK.
Sorry but the voting public are as self interested as the wealthy donors or union barons. If they see Labour not doing anything and tories do get things done locally they will vote tory and hold their nose about the Eton, about the donors, etc. Time for socialists to grow up. Also time for conservatives to grow up and take over the centre ground. Eff the ERG and their ilk!
I wonder how awful someone has to be to be considered too rotten to be a Tory donor?

You mean Blair donor guidelines mentioned upthread? Good for Labour government not for tory government?
Corruption comes in many forms and governments have always had it. Unfortunately this bojo can't get his lot to hide it as well as other parties or governments.
However bad you think bojo and the tories are the fact is Labour must be worse or they'd have Corbyn in number ten. Didn't happen in the two chances his party gave him. Give the electorate credible alternative and you'll get tories out. The difficulty is British politics is such a fetid mass of incompetence, self interest and power grabs that there's nobody credible left.
We are at our lowest I've ever seen. Even Bliar's dodgy dossier and WMDs days plus his newsworthy cosying and Bush Jr lapdog times were better. Not since Foot leading Labour has there been such a hopeless opposition. Without a good opposition you get shoot government.
Just listening to the education minister (I think that's what they said!). Can someone tell me if we'll still have jobs that are low wage? You simply can't up the wages of everyone. That does not work, unless you want prices to go up. The talk seems to be that all people can be 'skilled up' and therefore paid more. Can they? Who funds that pay?
The converse of this, is that businesses automate more where they can - so they can pay more out of greater productivity - thereby reducing the number of jobs (isn't that what automation does?). So what happens to the underclass that is created?
I know loads of jobs across the range from low skill to high skill were taken by EU workers, but I'd love to see the stats as to what level of job was being taken by the majority of EU workers. And is the lower paid end of that jobs that can be automated? If not, how do you increase productivity in those poorly paid jobs to enable the employer to earn more, so they can pay more?
He just gave a really banal example of an entrepreneur within hospitality, who he'd spoken to, who laid out a plain how one of his lowly workers can work their way through the levels within 4 years and become a manager earning £60k. Great. How many of those managers will that company employ, and how many other employees on zero hours contracts to fund that £60k? Isn't that true now anyway? That isn't skilling up is it - it's just recognising talent in a particular field and promoting it.
What high skill jobs are being created nowadays that aren't already computerised? And how many will there be in 5...10...years time?

Depressing all round isn't it!
