The media can’t win with this. In large parts of the country fuel shortages were, and to some extent still are, a massive problem. It is news. It needs to be reported because it is affecting millions of people but, in the very act of reporting, the situation will be exacerbated.

There was a problem with fuel supply to one specific petrol station group in one comparatively small part of the country.  The media in general, but the BBC in particular, did seem to take great delight in overblowing the problem.  It was theie reporting which turned a local difficulty into a national crisis.  One morning the wonderfully named Phil McCann, BBC reporter, stood in a dry petrol station spreading doom and gloom about drivers coming in and leaving with no fuel.  Only at the end of the report did he mention that a garage 'just down the road' seemed to have plenty.  It's that sort of reporting that worsens the problems.
Had they reported the scale of the problem accurately it would never have become a crisis.  In fact if they had reported accurately it would never have got past being a small item on the local news.

Dehydrated or concentrated water will take up less space. You only need to dilute it to taste.

What a brilliant idea.  Advertise through an 'influencer' and the sales would be in their millions.  Just think of the benefits, not just taking up less space but much lighter too when out on long walks. :D  It could also be used to water the natural multi-coloured roses and other plants seen on some gardening forums.

Would it make you pee less?  That would be a great advantage on walkies or even when I'm just down the far end of the garden?

Brilliant idea! Patent that , quickly!
Todays grumble is that I made some coleslaw for lunch, OH very keen on it. However, he says today’s batch had a bitter after taste. Usual recipe, although I did add dried cranberries which I often do. Can’t work out why it tasted differently today. I thought it was fine. Only just before lunch, he was saying that my homemade stuff was so much better than bought. I’m rather annoyed.
Just eaten a slice of Ikea cake from the freezer, and I have to say, I thought it tasted like chocolate flavoured cardboard. I will now have to try some cardboard to see if I’m right.

Don't forget there would also be a great photo opportunity for the influencers on water sources - perhaps at Niagara Falls or similar....perhaps very close to Niagara Falls... ;)

  • There are still long queues and dry petrol stations round here.

Hydrogen power- yes someone was suggesting hydrogen for aeroplanes recently.  Wasn't the Hindenberg, filled with hydrogen? It must be me again 🤯

If I can't continue using propane gas bottles @Allotment Boy I will, reluctantly, change to an induction hob and maybe add a couple of panels to our PV array.   Don't want anything to do with any other gas or piped gas in the house.

@Fairygirl - golden opportunity for you to collect selfies or just pics, if you prefer, of every Scottish waterfall and then maybe scoot down to the Lakes and do the same with all the Forces there.  Great hill walking too.  Make a fortune as an influencer and just think of all the sheep you could meet!

  • I once saw an article on ultralightweight backpacking that suggested a certain water of life as a lightweight means to enjoy a tipple of a night camping in the hills.

To drink after your dehydrated meal a dehydrated whisky! It was  full of such things and was obviously an online April fool's day joke. Of course the alcohol is likely to go before the water if you tried to make it.

Imagine having a tablet that dehydrated water and dropping one by accident in a swimming pool...maybe that already happened with Moses...that may have been an oops/doh! moment that worked out ok in the end.
You'd be so welcome in flooded areas eh? Just drop one or two tablets - and...

    @Obelixx :D
I could always just direct them to the Steall Falls in Glen Nevis. Of course - they'd have to cross the [in]famous bridge first....

It's good fun to cross, and very simple in benign weather.  ;)

There was an item I was just reading @Allotment Boy, and they were making a comparison between the amount of fuel in London versus the amount in Scotland. They're inclined to forget that the population of London is almost double that of the whole of Scotland, so it can hardly be compared. Numpties.  :/
