because she was mental and went too far even for the rest of her cabinet. Then there was her choice of friends. General Pinochet was a guest at home home after she left politics but she described Nelson Mandela as a terrorist. She also stood up at the party confereence and said teachers didn't have the right to tell children it was ok to be gay. Section 28 anyone?
I was a child of the Thatcher years. My parents lived through the absurd interest rates, but were still able to house us, in the south east, on my dad's modest wage alone. And then after their separation, two households,on my dad's, supplemented by mum's new secretarial job. My generation has been lucky with interest rates, but it doesn't make up for the house price inflation that for the younger ones, and those of my age who weren't lucky enough to get on the ladder in the early 2000s, has put ownership out of reach and enriched landlords that make their rental lives hell. That is the Thatcher legacy.

and the destruction of our manufacturing industries.
I also think, for all she was our first female pm, her ilk set feminism back several years. We can't have it all, not in the way our society is constructed.
And yeah @Hostafan1, that puts her in the evil books for me. It's hard for someone of my generation to fathom and it's all too easily forgotten.
Goodness me. Think I’ll keep off this thread now - can’t understand the deep set .... feelings.... some have for a deceased person. Not pleasant to read such acerbic comments.
1983 we were buying a 2 bedroom maisonette, nothing flash, the mortgage rate was 12% 18 months later it was 16% I had 4 jobs, just to keep a roof over our head.I worked at the General Hospital,a nursing home, for a nursing agency,a cleaning job in a private house.one day working in the ED I was told "people like me were stealing all the jobs from other people" .we added years on to the mortgage then moved to a cheaper area

And that. And much more.
I must admit ours was a stridently anti-thatcher household (they did exist, even in Surrey, I remember the anti poll tax posters!) so I'm sure my view is skewed, but with the benefit of hindsight the only good I can see is the EU, and her heirs screwed that up too.
Ooh you're seeing the effects of my friday red wine consumption tonight! (I have keep this curmudgeoning in check all week, it's not good for my health!) 😡😡😡
