The leader of Insulate Britain has called himself a "hypocrite" and admitted he "doesn’t care" about insulating homes.
Liam Norton is behind the recent road-block protests. One of the main objectives is calling on the Government to insulate all social housing by 2025.
Mr Norton has now said he is "terrible" for not practicing what he preaches.
Speaking on talkRADIO, presenter Cristo Foufas asked Norton about why he doesn’t insulate his home.
He replied: “Because I’m a hypocrite."
Foufas probed him further, asking: "Do you understand why people will think, well, this guy doesn’t care about insulation, he only cares about causing disruption and trying to make a name for himself?"
Doesn't surprise me. Back in the day I remember greenpeace had a big campaign against 4x4s, before they became SUVs. So they sent a bunch of activists to hit a private carpark TY leaflet the 4x4 cars only with leaflets. A relative got one on their Honda crv which was less polluting than the estate car alternative as the company car or the 2 + 2 seat coupe. In fact they ignored big saloons that had a lot less mpg and higher pollution. Basically bandwagon jumping without knowing the facts about what they're campaigning about. Then they got back into their cars and drove home no doubt.
This guy though is a higher level of prat. I very much doubt they'll wheel him out again somehow. 😆
Thought this sounded a bit biased, so I had a look into it. He isn't their 'ringleader' for a start, he's their spokesperson. He's not a PR either, he's an electrician. He was pressed into these comments on what I would consider to be fairly partisan shows (GMB and Talk Radio) and I suspect his tone was sarcastic. He's not a very good spokesperson.
It is nonsensical to insist that all those who are protesting because the govt isn't supporting the public to insulate their homes, must already HAVE insulated homes. My read on it is that this was fairly considered baiting to elicit exactly this sort of response. He's an electrician, probably not earning a wage that allows thousands to be spent on insulation. They looked up the energy report on his property so they could chastise him for having single glazing rather than actually engage with the issue.
I take your point about not all protesters necessarily being able to afford double glazing. But it was an ideal opportunity for him to explain this, especially if he genuinely was in that position. I suppose we'll get a better idea of the type of person engaged in these protests when their cases come to court
There's a big difference between the optics of not having an insulated house with a so what attitude and one with a can't afford it explanation. If you give a shoot about things really surely you'd want the optics looking as good as the aim of your campaign? It's basic stuff that surely?

"Yeah, they’re right," Norton said.
"I don’t particularly care about insulation
What a prat!
