Thanks @didyw, the family lost a much cherished aunt and uncle within 6 weeks pf each other in 2019, just pre covid and then another uncle just before last Xmas. Out of the six children of our grandfather, only one is now left and the wife of another (the 86yr olds at the party last night). We kept meeting up at funerals and promised each other that as soon as things got safer, we'd all get together for a happy party instead. It's a family tradition going back decades, often fancy dress do's and maybe a 100 or more of us. My mum and her siblings could dance the pants off us even in their seventies and could party till dawn.

Afraid to say I haven't inherited my Mum's stamina and also can't stand noise and flashing lights (migraine triggering for me) so ducked out early just after 11 pm - a very poor show!

Glad you had a good weekend @Lizzie27, but a shame that not everyone could make it. I agree with you about noise and lights.

We went for a nice family walk this afternoon with the little girls on their bikes and scooters. It stopped raining.

@Obelixx, the bit of Dordogne where I live hasn't had brown grass this year, it's stayed green -there's been so much rain. Cakes and flapjacks sound yummy.

Gradually getting back to normal here … washing is nearly all done … however OH is doing a bit of repair and redecorating in the walk-in cupboard in the kitchen which is where all the crockery and baking tins etc normally live … they’re currently in the studio … it’s slightly chaotic 😵‍💫

I've got all the washing to do tomorrow Dove, didn't have time before we went away. Am hoping the weather will be dry as I prefer to line dry (except for towels).

I've also got some perennials to plant out now that the garden has had a good soak.

That's good, there's something so nice about the smell of washing dried outside, particularly on sheets, isn't there.

It was dry and sunny until we got as far as Chippenham, then poured all the rest of the way home, otherwise I might have chucked the washing straight into the machine then.
I'm beginning to flag a bit after all the partying so might have an early night soon.

Chippenham takes me back Lizzie, used to go to the folk festival every year in the 70/80’s

I went to college there in the mid 60's. I was really miffed because I'd have preferred to go to Bath where my brother was at college but the local Council put their foot down and insisted on Chippenham. It was a bit of a dump in those days but it did have a proper coffee bar - called the Cornucopia. We knew how to live it up in the West Country!

We certainly lived it up at the festival,  do they still have it Lizzie,  was split between Chippenham and Laycock.

  • Big ask and very silly of me as an  inelligent adult. Before Covid I was extremely fit, played hockey every week and managed our 2 acre garden. Am too scared to see my GP, haven't been there in 20 years plus. I am in no pain but my legs (previous 100/200m sprint champion) are wobbling and don't feel they can support me, fell over twice in the garden today. When standing, they wobble uncontrolled unless I focus my mind to stay still, am getting increasingly unsteady every day. What's wrong?
