@JessicaS Yes, Mileva is a lovely little rose, maybe the perfect patio rose. The blooms are different now than in summer, they now look more like the official pictures, the colour and form in summer was nicer, I think.
'Saphir' with its pretty colour today Wet 'Rosengrafin Marie Henriette', fragrant (fruity, myrrh, rose) Two new hydrangeas received yesterday from Signature Hydrangeas - 'Together (You & Me Series) Blue' and 'Stargazer'
@JessicaSI have developed the same habit. When I want a break from the desk I go to the garden to dead head or other things. It is just 5 min but helps me to keep calm 😉.
@JessicaS Peach Vaza didn’t do very well for me. The first flowers were all damaged by the rain, the buds got soaked and rotted inside without opening. We’ve had dry weather for quite a while now so these flowers are the only nice ones I got this year.
@newbie77 - My Gabriel Oak seems worse for blackspot than Eustacia Vye. She’s still got most of her leaves.
That said they’re both my worst performing second year roses. But I’ll let EV off at least as I think she’s probably suffering from replant sickness. I moved her last autumn so she had a bit more room. But think it may have been a worse spot for replant problems due to being slightly closer to the crabapple tree. She’d already seemed to have it the year before!
Got a good first flush from EV and then she’s done nothing since, no signs of new growth since June.
The performance of these two stands in stark contrast to Vanessa Bell who was also moved, but in late spring this year, so had less time to recover. I’d also butchered half of her roots in the move. Yet she recovered, grew, flowered and has continued to grow despite also having been swamped by the surrounding plants. Unfortunately I’ll have to move her again I think in winter!
@edhelka Lovely hydrangeas, wish I could grow blue ones, they’re my favourite but no luck on this soil.
Eustacia Vye is certainly healthier than Gabriel Oak for me, and better performing, but we’ll see what next year brings. This is both of their first years.
Mr Vine Eye and Omori,. Thank you for feedback on Eustacia Vye. Very helpful.
I also have two large apple trees next to rose border. Not ideal but can't change it. Any idea if apple leaves and fruits are ok to put in compost bin used for making compost for roses?
