...sounds like you got a decent Mutabilis this time.. have you planted it yet?   it will be interesting to compare your Mme de Sevigne with original references for this rose..

..  I found Gloire de Ducher not too vigorous, I can't recall it throwing up a fresh basal, and I kept it a few years.. it repeated well though... the colour reddened later in the season.. BS and Mildew without bothering me too much.

..with those precautions it should be ok then Nollie, although I've never gone to that trouble here with Mutabilis..   the only rose I've ever lost to winter freeze was a bare root, spindly, Souvenir de la Malmaison... which surprised me to be honest although it was in a pot which froze solid..

.. exceptionally mild weather in my forecast, not seen anything like it that I can recall for the next 2 weeks.. no frosts and temps after xmas around 12 with 10 at night..  puzzled by all this talk of 'snowbombs'... even Altnaharra and Braemar have mild conditions - these are usually the snowiest places..

  • I had a helpful phone call from Trevor White's today. I had been trying to get in touch to add a couple of yellows to an existing order due mid Jan and hadn't been able to get through so made an additional order, not wanting them to sell out. Anyway they rang back today and kindly said they would refund postage for the second order and combine onto one invoice, which was jolly nice of them :)
