I don’t really understand it @Tack, they are a mail order company, so presumably they must send out the bigger standards to destinations within the Netherlands at least. Maybe they don’t trust their international couriers!

It must be very strange indeed losing your sense of smell @newbie77. At least there won’t be any roses to smell for much longer and I’m sure you will get in back well in time for next season, in fact probably within weeks of your recovery. Get well soon @purplerallim too, hope it is just a cold, OH thought hers was until two lateral flow then a pcr test confirmed otherwise, but she feels much better and can’t wait to come home.

    Thanks Nollie.

Yes odd that they cannot ship. I was also looking forward to your standard rose. Can you find any other source for it?

Get well soon everybody suffering. @newbie77 don’t worry, smell sense will come back soon, my brother-in-law and my nephew both lost it for a while, with mild symptoms it’s almost the norm, but they got it back not so long after recovering.

Finally, rain arrived here too. I don’t know if I will be able to see those LEH buds flowering (or blooming? Never remember the difference between flowering and blooming)

Ive had a mail that my styles bare root order is on the way, my Austins already arrived a few weeks ago. Exciting!  Bulbs have all arrived, pending planting, and a couple of Harvington hellebores I fancied for some more winter colour (I love Hellebore, got a fair few dotted about) Feels like Im slowly getting prepped for the winter.

Second opinions please - I usually pot my bare roots / plant with John innes #3, but couldnt get any, recon fresh (bagged brought) topsoil with a bit of compost mixed in will be fine?

TCL seem to be the only supplier I can find that will export standards @newbie77. Oh well, I’ll either get it or I won’t!

Don’t think there is a difference, @dabolem - a flower, a bloom or a blossom are all the flowering/reproductive parts of a plant. I think it’s just convention that we call usually rose blooms blooms, sounds posher or more romantic perhaps?

Do take it easy @Mr. Vine Eye, don’t want you crashing headlong into the roses now 😆

To one and all, I have really enjoyed looking at all of your amazing roses and would like to thank you for all of the time and effort on this thread that you put in to help and inspire us. <3. I would like to grow more container roses and would love to know your success criteria for this regarding types of compost used, feeding etc, also, do you have to replenish the soil now and again or mulch in winter? many tia.

I was away for a few days and have come back to rose petals strewn all over the garden, must've been very windy as I see many branches broken too. A pity as Munstead Wood had lots of flowers, may be swan song for this season. Lady of Shalott flowers haven't shattered though. I think I'll bring the remaining flowers indoors to enjoy a la @Mr. Vine Eye's photo above.

And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth :)
