@Victoria Sponge you have to share pics when the daffs are in bloom! I love them, so cheery. Ive got my first bunch of the year in the kitchen smelling lovely.
@owd potter I had better document the trial yes! Will be after its bloomed, hopefully straight after so got the season to grow... probably have to prune some of it at least, but Albertine especially is wickedly thorny and wedding day is whippy!....
Well after seeing how many you all have I bit the bullet and ordered some more, to add to my very few roses.😊 11 in number. I only came to like roses in the past six years, before that I had one very poor specimen of Blue Moon. So I have decided to go down memory lane somewhat and get two Twice in a Blue Moon, plus a climbing red Love Knot. The red is to celebrate our 40th anniversary in June, but we will have to see if it manages to flower by then.
@Marlorena, agreed, I also thought I had far more than I expected😉
@JessicaS, oh your daffs are early, though maybe not for where you are. I will try and sidle some daffs in next to a nondescript rose and will post photos as 'spring underplanting' 😁
@Victoria Sponge oops I should have added I cheated and brought bunches! (Or rather a lovely friend did as a gift). I get them the second I spot them each year and every few weeks until the last bunches lots of shoots here but no daff buds.
hi guys, hope you don’t mind me asking a quick question. My two Trevor White roses have just arrived and I’m not sure whether to leave them in their pots or plant out in the garden or re-pot for a year or so. Simone (right) which will eventually be planted out and The Fairy which will be kept in a pot. Many thanks for any advice I have a total of 10 roses now. 3 are DA, 2 have been grown from cuttings, the 2 above from TW, 2 inherited and 1 can’t remember!
..those are typically good roses from TW.. 2 year old, well rooted, unsold from last season... you can either plant straight in the ground now, or anytime during the next month, repot.. if you intend only to keep them for 1 season in pots, then there is no need to over pot... I find a 30 x 30cm pot adequate for 1 year..
I expect you got them on discount - lucky you !..
Looking forward to seeing more of your collection this season..
..update on 'Tottering by Gently'.. a single yellow flowered rose from David Austin Roses.. singles are not usually at the top of most people's lists, but this is a rather good one..
.. I removed the remaining hips for pruning today.. they last a couple of weeks in a vase before going soft..
..this rose produces lots of basal growth in a cluster, typically heading for an E-S direction, which is to the right in this picture... my rose is obelisk trained and the canes are quite stiff.. and as it's planted on the E-S side, I have to bring those canes back to the support.. ..I have to bring some canes around to the West side.. ..and to the North side, otherwise I won't have any flowers on this side at all.. I've also shortened quite a few canes..and left some long at about 5 foot..
..my obelisk is 6 foot above ground.. this rose is not ideal for growing this way but it produces a good effect.. it can be kept shorter or allowed to grow into a big freestanding shrub.. I love this rose...
