@Omori , HC isn't great for roses, but it has pockets of inspiration. The scented garden is great in summer with fantin lator , Alan Titchmarsh, a giant Harlow Carr amongst others I don't know. There's a big bank of DA Harlow Carr roses by the learning centre, the Edwardian garden is packed with brother cadfiel and mortimer sacker and others. Last autumn they developed a large new bed of mixed austins between Betty's and the learning centre. Currently underwhelming , but has potential : I've learned that sophys rose is a surprisingly nice rose from it that you never otherwise hear of. All this working from home has meant I've been lucky to go once week of a lunchtime. Nice way to spend a lunch hour! It's not great for roses but I love it, it's sum is greater than its parts.
A first year Sophys rose at RHS Harlow Carr it was a bare root last autumn. The pic doesn't do it justice, it's much nicer in the flesh. I post it as its not one that crops up often, but I really liked it.
Those are very lovely photographs @Omori. Roses and Bettys! oh why is it so far? As an army brat with a Dad in Catterick Camp going to the Northallerton Bettys was a major treat.
After the lists so far I have a suspicion I should have chosen LEH over LoS, I just love the foliage and red buds. Blackspot though hmm.
Pink Martini in a jug, what a thought that conjures up, looks luscious @Marlorena.
I agree with Nollie that edhelka's Paul Noel is very tempting, Any recent pics @Edhelka or how is it late season?
Edit to show you were absolutely right @Fire, the 6ft Cosmos are giving a great late display.
@Tack The rose season is basically over here, it has been raining for 2 or 3 weeks we probably won't see much more sunny or dry weather. I haven't done any deadheading or garden maintenance in ages. PN's 1st flush was in June, then some scattered blooms, the 2nd smaller flush in late August/early September and now again scattered blooms. I think this is good for a rambler. The blooms are smaller now than in summer. This is it yesterday, there is a new long cane, mixed with the thunbergia. A tiny autumn bloom: 2nd September
@Omori oooh I didnt realise it was that Bettys! Love Betty's, we go in York whenever we visit and discovery they do mail order has been dangerous! I love the way they have trained those apples, very attractive.
Quick question - id like to get a rose as a gift for a friend whose in hospital, she loves my big ruffled double roses and I know it would really cheer her up - bare roots are fine, I spotted eastcroft have Henri Delbard and Charles Austin which look great anyone got either and can recommend one over the other? Both would be fine in space.
