@Mr. Vine Eye thanks for taking us through your pruning regimen by way of sharing your before-after photos. I thought it was a nice and sunny day and ventured into my garden to start pruning. But then the strong wind put paid to that and I was forced indoors. I did notice that I still have a few flowers on Lady of Shallot and spied broken branches on Munstead Wood. Tomorrow I'll plant those branches and see whether they take.

And then my heart with pleasure fills,
And dances with the daffodils (roses). Taking a bit of liberty with Wordsworth
Take care everyone.. expected to be windy tomorrow as well... always good to see before and after.. and to compare these pics to summer ones, to get that satisfaction of having done a good job..
@Marlorena PhenoGeno does pride themselves in cold hardy varieties.. I did read an article about gene pooling (probably from the same team), which mentioned how certain breeders have the same genetics, from similar type of varieties used in their breeding... and yes they are interested in Cold hardy Canadian varieties.. what I am interested is their Frayla collection and disease resistance.. Kordes roses are good for ADR but not much options when combining best of both worlds..
This year I have got 2 PG roses from TW.. will see how it goes and report back..
@Marlorena@Lizzie27 there is option of Immunoglobulins, but the GP would look into the wound, etc and decide if its needed... always do a good clean and make sure there is no foreign particles left behind..
@cooldoc ..thanks for that, I forget we have a resident Doc. on call here which is very useful.. the nurse said I didn't need any treatment for it and it healed very quickly. I was surprised she made that decision so quickly though, literally within seconds.. experience I suppose..
Looking forward to seeing your new PG roses later on..
Gosh it RJ grew lots last year (third year leap) - here’s Feb 2021 to compare. I’ve marked on the newer photo in blue to show roughly roughly where it had grown up to the previous year, based on the photo.
@Marlorena and @cooldoc, thanks for those comments re tetanus jabs. I'm pretty sure I haven't had 5 but then again, have never been bitten by a dog! I've got online access to my medical records so will look up vaccinations again- there are not many as my dear old Dad was a vehement anti-vaxxer back in the day.
My two arches have been my main rose project, over the last six years or so. I knew nothing at all about roses when I started so have made many mistakes, changed taste, discovered things and learnt a lot over those years. When I moved in there was a triffid wisteria eating the garden and at least two very old, mammoth honeysuckles, mostly dead wood and not flowering and layering everywhere.
I put in the main arch in about 2015; the little one was already there and collapsing under the weight of the honeysuckle. I look out the wisteria 😱 and lots of honeysuckle plants. There is one left by the small arch that is well behaved and does flower. In about 2015 I put in some Pilgrims on either side of the big arch. They weren't well suited, didn't grow well (I didn't feed or water enough) and I discovered I didn't like them much. So I gave them away; and joined the forum.
June 2019: starting again. 🙄 I would say that all the roses have spent their energies putting on long canes, not in flowering so much.

In Jan 2018 I put an Etoile D'H on the right of the small arch. Pic here is June.

Last week. The arch is pretty much covered and some are coming up from the other side. Is it a mess? Loads of laterals tied in as canes...

Your post just reminded me that there was an opening flower on Scarborough fair which I pruned off - I was going to bring it in with me.
Probably blown away by now!
