Interesting, was yours from the Belgian nursery too @newbie77? Mine arrived bone dry in an equally bone dry paper sack so I’m amazed they came back at all. Will need coddling and growing on for a year.
My potted roses from Italy have arrived in Girona, which was very fast, but unlikely the local courier will bother to deliver them until sometime next week. You’d think it was 3 continents away, not a 30 minute drive!
Mountainous Northern Catalunya, Spain. Hot summers, cold winters.
Today was going to be an allotment day, putting in some more posts for trellising soft fruit, but it’s horrid out there, constant rain and the ground is saturated - so no thanks!
If it eases I’ll try and get out in the back garden to see how those roses are doing.
Some winter colours in this weather, Camellias are in full bloom now, Mini and early daffodils in flower, winter pots still doing ok. I never got around planting primulas i sowed last year.
@newbie77 Nice to have some colours.. mine is predominantly summer garden.. if there is a space.. I think about roses first.. ADM seems to have a nice colour variation in its flowers..
Done with my garden chores for now.. wanted to read the Handbook badly as this week was supposed to be my relaxing week before I take up the new job in London.. So I will be missing my garden for sometime..
If anyone has not received their copy of handbook yet, it would be worth asking DA (they have chat option) regarding the status.. apparently mine was sent out on 21st of February.. so clearly it was lost.. they promised to sent a new one..
Leaves on my roses..
Cutting section.. not sure if they will make it, as I pulled them out carelessly and potted up onto smaller pots.. would have lost most of their roots and some cuttings only had callus despite having good leaf growth..
Foul weather here. Just spotted Sarah Raven has up to 40% off some bare root roses, some nice ones there.
I didnt buy anything, no space, but got inspiration for bouquet. That Scented Marshmellow collection, I need that on my desk and Copper and Crimson one for Kitchen. She has got amazing photographers. Everything is so beautiful in her website.
Lovely camellias there @newbie77 , I only have one. Other than that I think your and my gardens are very alike, actually I have often thought that. I have similar pots and colour
Wow that is a lot of cuttings cooldoc, will be interesting to see how they do. I've given up on doing them due to no success and no space for duplicate roses though own root comparisons would be interesting.I bought a dreadful TP specimen from the Italian nursery , I thought it was doomed , lots of dieback, it seems like a theme with this rose but it looks like this one year on. I will support its brittle stems till it looks like Nollie's sturdy example.
Below photo of roses now showing a wide spectrum of leaf colourIt was too cold and damp today to stay out long
I am not sure what to do with the cuttings yet.. Will see if any makes it till summer and may be I will plant them in the ground to fend for themselves.. I already did plant a few onto the ground as I was running out of pots..
