I wish I could condition mine! It's not as if he doesn't have jumpers to wear, he just seems to like sitting around in light summer clothes. He might change his tune when the fixed price deal ends.

Yep.  I'm in thick socks, joggers, hoodie.....he's in shorts and t shirt and bare feet.

I think a lot of people will be shocked into action come April.

Condenser driers (no pipe; moisture collected in a tank or piped to waste like washing machine) can do it if they are not made properly (mainly heat element driers).  The condenser heat pump driers tend not to do this.

I had a condenser drier like that @TheGreenMan and it put me off them.
The one I have now is excellent though.
It's hard to dry clothes here without one. I'd need a couple of empty rooms to hang stuff up, and even then, if it's mild -like it is just now, it won't dry easily if you don't have heat of some kind on.
Heats the kitchen up too when it's cold  ;)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

Skandi, thats interesting. I always thought Denmark, Norway, Sweden didn't approve of fossil fuels and we're all electric.  Do you have triple glazing? We went for induction this time, and I'm so glad. All those years of taking gas hobs apart to clean. My kitchen stays much cleaner, and the saucepan handles don't get hot or damaged. Cleaning now,is a dream. Oh God,Fairy, was sitting here, wondering who Alexa Doofer was,you can tell I hate technology!!

They are trying to phase out oil and gas heating, gas is rare but oil is very common out in the country, most houses that have the money to replace oil furnaces have already done so as it's the most expensive heating option.
The reason there are not a lot of heatpumps (though they are much more common that in the UK) is that almost all town and village houses are on the municipal heating, which depending on the company (they are not allowed to make a profit) can be pretty cheap or horribly expensive, but you HAVE to have it installed if it is present.  And country houses like mine are in general old, big and poorly insulated. I've never seen triple glazing here it probably exists in expensive new builds but it's not even advertised if you look at buying new windows.
The relative prices of different heating systems is quite interesting, wood is the cheapest, followed by pellets, then electric heat pumps, municipal heating, then oil, and then straight electric is the most expensive.
The average price per kWH on a variable tarif right now is about 70p
I had a look at a heat pump, we would need 2 of the largest available and it would cost considerably more per year to run than our existing pellet furnace. without even thinking about trying to insulate this house.

Interesting. I had assumed Scandi countries were way ahead on this and that triple way ultimately the way to go, when the tech became cheaper...

Skandi, will they be banning wood and pellets?  I see ER glued themselves to the court steps and got away with it. I read the UK produces 1% of the planets CO2, Bidens has given permission for over 3000 gas and oil drilling stations.China and India are still building coal fired power stations.

They'll probably try to ban them by stealth, i.e by making it all but impossible to create a stove that meets emissions criteria. The councils already have the power to ban all wood burning inside town's though I do not know of any who have exercised that power. They tried to put VAT on wood and failed, It would only catch people in cities, here wood trades for cash, often while it's still standing.
They would struggle right now to ban either outright, both are classed as carbon neutral. And a very high proportion of the non city houses use wood as the main source of heat.
They did/do have a help package if you want to change to electric but it only covers the wages of the installer and you have to wait until April to get it back against your taxes.. so absolutely no use to anyone who doesn't have 20k lying around in the first place

Nope, don't have £20k lying around.  Using my pension lump sum to have solar panels put up in April. Figure this has to be the way to go
How is wood burning carbon neutral. People in the house opposite me,have builders van opposite all morning having a fireplace installation

Because any carbon you produce by burning it was just collected by the tree. so yes wood burning is a neutral activity if you don't count transport or packaging.
Last time I looked at solar pannels it would take 15 years to pay back, and the lifespan was 15 years. my neighbour has solar hot water and he loves it, but I have  a huge beach tree that shades my house so I can't put anything like that on the roof anyway.
