    I get emails and text messages from electric supplier,  I just delete them and ignore.

    I don’t think I’m understanding smart meters correctly now though,  I thought it was a gadget that sat on your worktop and showed when the meter was wizzing round so you’d turn things off, now I read that they are attached to your meter,  I’m not going down the garden to see what electric I’m using when I know it will be wizzing round with the kettle on.

    @Lyn

    They often give you a monitor which can be plugged in somewhere in the house so you can see, as it’s happening, what you use.

    You can just throw that in a drawer.

    The biggest plus for me is that I don’t have to provide meter readings because the meters send it to the company every day (or hour if you wish).

    It also allows me to see how much Im using each day by logging into my app.

    If you’re not bothered about looking at your usage then the meter readings being automatic would be the only other benefit.

    For those still without a smart metre - a reminder to manually send in your metre readings before the end of the month - ideally not on the last day as the systems might crash with so many people trying to submit.
