Some curmudgeonliness is about little irritations that affect a few ... some is about huge moral issues that make curmudgeons of us all.

Feel free to suggest a different topic and see who bites @Songbird-1😊
For me, that would have to go on the Words that push your buttons thread.
    Babies and animals bite.

You got me bang to rights @Lyn😏 to coin a phrase which also annoyingly coins a phrase
    In London. Keen but lazy.
  • Anyone know which actions were actually formally wars since WWII? You had the Falklands conflict, Vietnam and Korea I think weren't declared wars. The two gulf wars were known as wars but were they technically wars?
    The Balkans?
    Columbian drug war?
    The Cold War?
    The Cod War?

...I struggled a bit with your question 😬😀

Me too.  The Vietnam War was exactly that - at the time it was going on, it was never referred to as anything else.  It wasn't the odd spat over a border.
No idea what constitutes a "war" in technical language but I imagine most would see major conflicts between 2 or more opposing parties with the use of bombs and firearms
designed to obliterate the enemy ( as well as the odd civilian or 2 !!! ) as a war.
I'd also guess that the War Veterans Societies also deem most conflicts involving the above criteria as wars.
Bit like the current fad of referring to possible criminal acts as "wrongdoing" - it doesn't have the same impact altho it often means exactly the same.
    Apologies to @Songbird-1 ;)
  • Especially for @NorthernJoe  Palermo peppers refusing to ripen.  The much vaunted August heatwave ?  Got a week to go but I don't see it happening.  Will that do for now ?  :D

Nothing to do with gardening whatsoever but I'm confused.
I will need to complete a passenger location form before entering Ireland.
This form must be completed 'within 72 hours of arrival'.
Would you say it means complete it during the 72 hour period or complete it before the 72 hours start?
In other words what does 'within' mean?
    In London. Keen but lazy.

Ok, bl**dy slugs, snails, damping off, blight, weeds growing like mad, poor spud harvest, too many Plums to make proper use of them all, and totally wrong weather forecast.  Will that do @NorthernJoe, and @Songbird-1.

The test must be taken less than 72 hours before arrival.

Grammatically speaking, it could even mean you arrive, then have 72hrs to complete the form. Obviously not what it really means though.
