@B3, just wanted to say thank you for opening another thread and keeping this one going. It's important for understanding and improvement that these discussions are had but I totally understand those that may want lighter reading!Â
Gosh, never see the "F" word before on the forum, always thought Dove wouldn't swear! Mind you, compared to Mumsnet! You remember the Nick Cayman advert,no idea what it was for. I often go to put the washing machine on,whip off what I m wearing, say "I m doing a Nick Cayman,",don't worry,no one can see,in the conservatory, where the washing machine lives!
I used that word after a fair bit of thought … I didn’t use it lightly … I believe it’s the right word to use in this discussion @Nanny Beach …….
I don’t think the people concerned were thinking of ‘being intimate’ and ‘having sexual intercourse’ implies a two way relationship, which rape certainly isn’t.Â
I could’ve used ‘screw’ but it’s not shocking enough. Sexual assault and rape should sound shocking because that’s what it is. Â
When we’re talking about sexual violence then we should use the appropriate words … not attempt to make it sound acceptable to genteel ears 😡Â

Well it's catching on @Dovefromabove, because there are now two examples on the forum in quick succession. Where does it stop though? We've already got a disruptive presence on the forum and now the use of that word. If this forum is to become a platform to shock, then it could lose good members and quickly gain others less interested in gardening.
The events around the poor woman's death are sufficiently shocking in my opinion. Was using that word on here really necessary?
I think it was necessary in the context in which I used it @Woodgreen and I’ve explained why.Â
If you think that rape and sexual assault should be discussed in prettier terms then you can seek the opinion of the Mods … as always I’m content to abide by their decision.Â

I don't think dove's use of the f word has encouraged our newest squabble.Â
The thing is, yes the latest murder is obviously shocking, but the day-to-day situation seems to be less so, and that is part of the problem. We're all grownups, I'm sure the user of a swear word in that particular context won't corrupt the whole forum.Â

Yet another example of an instance where a woman should have been safe.Â
